Migrants crisis: Slovakia 'will only accept Christians'

Last month, EU member states agreed to take in 32,000 asylum seekers arriving in Italy and Greece over the next two years - fewer than the 40,000 target.

The scheme was made voluntary after some nations - including Slovakia - refused to accept set quotas.

Mr Metik told the BBC: "We want to really help Europe with this migration wave but... we are only a transit country and the people don't want to stay in Slovakia.

"We could take 800 Muslims but we don't have any mosques in Slovakia so how can Muslims be integrated if they are not going to like it here?"

EU Commission spokeswoman Annika Breithard said she could not comment directly on the Slovak statement, but stressed that EU states were banned from any form of discrimination.

Meanwhile Babar Baloch, Central Europe spokesman for the UNHCR, said: "Resettlement is greatly needed for many refugees who are at extreme risk among the world's most vulnerable groups.

"We encourage governments to take an inclusive approach while considering refugees for resettlement and should not base their selection on discrimination."

More than 240,000 migrants have crossed the Mediterranean already this year, arriving on the shores of Greece and Italy before travelling on to other destinations.

Germany, the biggest recipient of asylum-seekers in the EU, has said it could receive as many as 800,000 applicants this year.

The numbers are far higher than the record 438,000 asylum applications in 1992 during the Bosnian crisis.

Both the EU and the UN have called on other countries to share the burden.

But EU leaders face a public backlash amid tensions over immigration.

Do you guys agree with the Slovaks? Should their policy be Christians only? No immigrants? Or all immigrants?

I think whoever ends up there won't stay in Slovakia long term anyway, they'll probably head over to wealthier parts of the EU.

I wouldn't advocate immigration to my worst enemy. Try to think of the most fucked up country in the world. I don't know, Central African Republic maybe? Think shit can't get worse for the CAR? Think again. Add some mass immigration to the clusterfuck that is the CAR today, and it's like kicking a guy in the face after he's already been curb-stomped.

Slovakia has suffered through the ravages of foreign-imposed communism for about half a century and has just recently began to prosper as a peaceful, ethnically homogenous nation state. Note that it used to be a part of Czechoslovakia until the Czechs and Slovaks decided that they're too different and incompatible and that it's best for both parties to go their separate ways. How brief was the Slovakian experiment in having their own country! Now instead of dealing with the troublesome Czechs, they will get to experience true diversity and welcome Africans and Middle Easterners.

Europe integrates Christians relatively well, even from sub Sahara Africa. A different religion is tougher and integration is harder, plus in central and eastern Europe the memories of ottoman occupation is still fresh.

The interesting question is what happens these people when the next economic crisis hits, and even the native population will be hard pressed for living.

Slovakia is completely within its rights to do this, and the move is just common sense. Instead of whining at Mr. Metik and his racism, the EU authorities should be glad he is accepting anyone. They can have the remaining Muslims if they like.

If the government of the developed world were serious about the humanitarian aspect of this mass migration (well, first of all they wouldn't have fucked up all the countries in the middle east in the first place) they would establish a large refugee zone somewhere in the middle east, set up refugee camps and seriously commit to keeping them at a high standard, and accept refugees to live there. It would be more efficient that trying to integrate a massive foreign population into host countries costing in government service and lower wages, would save them the social strife of integrating people with a vastly different culture into western societies, would help with weeding out legitimate refugees from relatively well-off Africans and Middle Easterners who just want to get into Europe, and it would actually be easier for refugees to get there!

That's the problem. They should accept no one. Islam is a complicating factor when it comes to immigration but it's just one of many. Right now, the greatest, most precious things Slovakia has going for it is that it's full of Slovakians and only Slovakians. Once you introduce foreign, phenotypically distinct populations into the country, you're setting yourself up for pain. The Slovakians will rue this day.

Slovakia is my ancestral homeland. Besides the telling last name, most of my family speaks the language and we still have relatives there, near Košice. It's an extremely devout, extremely conservative Catholic culture my parents and grandparents went to great lengths to preserve within our family.

It can be difficult to understand why only Christians are allowed into the country without understanding the Slovaks as people. This isn't the populist reaction you'd expect in France, Germany, or the U.K., but rather, a decision deeply rooted in the communal consciousness of the country. Everything is done by the local community, for the local community. On Sundays, you won't find a single empty seat in the churches (even today), ranking Slovakia among the most devout Christian countries in the world.

The Slovaks endured the Mongol invasion, the Ottomans, Hungarian rule, the Nazi invasion, and most recently suffered under decades of brutal Communist rule. Whether it's bread crumbs on the table or spare car parts buried in the dirt, nothing is taken for granted, especially community. To be a Slovak is an entirely different concept than being a German; it's belonging to a tight-knit group of brothers and sisters. Slovakia will always be the "Old Country" to me and my family.

I couldn't be more proud they're standing up for themselves and protecting what they've earned.

I am not a fan of the EU at all and fully support the autonomy of all individual nations which includes all European nations.

The EU is filled to the brim with socialists and neo-Marxists bent on the destruction of European culture and its own populations in favor of globalist utopian forced multicultural slop.

I believe in absolute free association and if people of different cultures choose to come together for their mutual benefits, then I support that but the EU is forcing its members to accept migrants without any say from their populations and if their populations dare speak up they are labeled as reactionaries. I say fuck that.

If Slovakia wants to accept only Christians, then that is their choice. There are plenty of wealthy Muslim countries that could take in other Muslims such as Saudi Arabia, Qatar, UAE, Kuwait. I'd also like to ask, why is Israel not taking in any refugees?

I'm reading this thread and at this very moment a group of muslim "refugees" is running around the wonderful east-german city Suhl while screaming "allahu akbar". The riot started a few hours ago in an asylum seeker camp the news says. It started because of religious misunderstandings they say, whatever the fuck that means. Coincidentally, today the german government stated that about 800.000 (!!!) "refugees" will have come to Germany until the end of the year ... presumably. I can't really believe what the fuck is happening right now. Other countries, like hungary, take extraordinary measures to get the problem under control and we do literally nothing. Besides letting all of them into the country and spreading them around of course.

For me it's very hard to feel sympathy with my own people right now because it seems the majority of Germans just goes along with it in fear of getting the Nazi label. I guess that happens when the leader of the government and the secretary of defense are both women?

The EU sets a lot of conditions for membership e.g. A country can't have the death penalty if it wants to join the EU:

Completely agree. The idea that Muslims and Christians can live peacefully in the same country is contradicted by over a thousand years of experience.

Moreover, the New Testament explicitly says not to mix with non-Christians. St. Paul commanded it (in the Corinthians, I believe).

Personally, segregating a country by religion makes more sense than anything. More sense than by race or nationality. Religion is by far the most powerful factor in the long run.
