RE: Is it "beta" to be a member of this forum?
(11-12-2015 08:53 PM)bobford Wrote: So I'm just reading through the threads and I was reading a recently banned posters thread about how he hates women (lol) and flirts with them just to ditch them. How can I avoid being this "beta" kind of person, or do I need to at all. And it occurred to me, this seems pretty "beta"...participating in this forum that is. I mean, if you're on here you're undoubtedly here for what? To discuss women and in one way or another, dedicate extra "effort" into gaming them...kinda "beta" don't you think? Not trolling, just legitimately want to hear what you have to say.
While I do think some of the "what should I say next?" types of questions that come up may be a bit much, most of what's here is an intellectual discussion on matters of the modern world, and seems plenty fine (yes, that includes relations between the gender). Unfortunately, trying to have an honest, civil discussion about our modern reality is implicitly suppressed in life, so here we are. I've never really seen it as a "game" forum, trying to learn some pre canned comeback or anything like that. I ended up here the same way I think a lot of guys did, b/c they recognized the cognitive dissonance between reality and the cultural narrative. While this dissonance applies to many things such as government and inter-cultural dynamics, it's quite pronounced in the realm of modern gender relations. Many guys are here simply as a result of trying to find adventurous places to travel. A lot are here for the self-improvement resources. Perhaps in the beginning this place had a "game forum" nature to it, but I'd say it's definitely evolved past that. In fact, quite a few dudes on here find a lot of the pick up artist shit as rather cheesy. At worst, being here is an acknowledgement that yes, you're not perfect and you could be better. At best, it's a haven for sanity in a world that's otherwise turned mad.

RE: Is it "beta" to be a member of this forum?
I can't help but feel like your post, while appearing in good faith, has a whiff of "gotcha" to it.
Regardless - if you're serious, I'll bite.
I'll be the last person to tell you that I'm the most alpha motherfucker there is, because I'm not. It's not "beta" to admit that.
I'm on this forum because I wasn't satisfied with my life and the answers I got to my questions weren't leading me anywhere. I'm here because everything I was doing was wrong, and I wanted to fix that. After reading this forum for five years and posting for almost one, my life has improved an almost immeasurable amount. I've gone from completely useless with girls having slept with 0, five years ago, to having slept with 22 women in the last three years. One year I slept with three women. Then each after that I slept with more and more. I'm 23 years old and I'm just starting to hit my stride. Hell, I'd even say that I've only just begun to break out of beginner stage. And that's not the only benefit. Turns out I came here because of girls, and stayed because of men. I am socially more competent. I've corresponded with and met guys who are on the same level as me, a little lower, and way higher. They've all been solid guys and each one has taught me something. Before I found this group of men, I felt so alone because I never fit in anywhere I went. I was always the odd one out. When I discovered this side of the internet, I felt even more alone because the contrast was even more stark. But since talking and hanging out with like minded men, I no longer feel alone. The gentlemen on this board seem like the brothers I never had but always needed. I feel like I've got a place in this world, that I matter, and that I can make a difference. I've got hope for my future. That's why I'm here.

I think this is the theme throughout the guys on here. While I can't speak for Geomann's exact circumstances, a lot of the guys who didn't "fit it" wouldn't necessarily appear that way on the outside. Not fitting in isn't necessarily a social outcast thing, but rather a feeling of not connecting with people, even if you're outwardly sociable (alcohol helps these types, hence why there's an army of dudes that now need to hop on the "No Drinking Wagon", a great thread might I add). Outwardly, I fit the extroverted stereotype. I did the whole college/fraternity thing, going on spring break to Mexico type shit, so I wasn't some troll hiding in his dorm room. However, I always felt disconnected from people, and sometimes felt like I was in a constant state of observation and people-watching. I could see the hamster wheel people were hopping on in life, wondering if they could see it for themselves. The world was Africa, and I was Jane Goodall.

One of the best things about this forum is that it recreates a tradition that held, until recently, since the beginning of time:
That older guys helped out younger ones with support, advice and little judgement; respecting one another for where they want to go to not where they are now.
It's an amazing place this, if used correctly.

Disagree. I think there's value to the question, and it "could" be perceived as insulting, but sometimes the important questions to ask can seem that way, so by saying "not trolling" you at least let it roll around in your head for a second before tossing them aside. If the poster is a troll, they'll be figured out soon enough.
You want to help people, and I think that makes you overlook some clear trolling tactics. Anytime someone has to stretch their imagination and strain logic to come up with some contrarian point, they don't want help. They either want attention, or they want to be banned.
There's no place for it anyway. It detracts from people with real questions and real problems who turn to the forum.

It's funny you mention this b/c when I replied I was thinking about that story about the guy who went on the bodybuilding.com forum to troll and ended up receiving help that resulted in him losing several hundred pounds.

RE: Is it "beta" to be a member of this forum?
I'll have to agree with nek a bit here. It is staggering how little self awareness people have these days. And I hate to harp on it, but especially the younger people I meet. They spend their entire lives thinking they can do what they want, say what they want to say, and think their shit doesn't stink. And they don't want to do the work. I know these are broad strokes and generalizations, there are plenty of young guys here that are impressive.
I lay out these comments because the kids are clueless. They just don't know how to act. And they sometimes think they are so smart and clever, so I could see someone posting something like the OP to try to show how deep/smart they are, when in reality they are not very deep or smart at all. But the young kids are always trying to prove how smart they are with their observations. But their observations are through the lens of little experience and poor parenting.
I forgot where I read this, but there is some millennial movie reviewer who claims the greatest movies are recent ones, but he has never seen the classics, so he wouldn't know. It is like kids these days who have never seen some of the NBA greats so they can only claim the ones they have seen as the greatest. But they won't do the work to go and watch the players from the past to have an objective answer, because that would be too much work and it would mess with their belief that they know better.
This ramble is almost done.
Yes, nek, this is a place to find mentors, but you need to be humble enough to seek mentoring. Busy guys are not going to help some shithead just because he decides to post something. Time is a precious resource and guys will use it to help those who are worthy of their time.
This forum is about improvement, but many think they need no improvement at all.

Here's my bet:
50 bucks says that the OP here is one and the same with the female troll "Barwin" from here...who has returned with a paid membership and a new name.
The similarities are too striking.
The first post of this thread here reeks of female shit test.
Barwin/Bobford...
Take a (not so subtle) hint:
