Anakin's terrible game
Star Wars is in the air and I came across this:

Gosh, those prequels sucked.

Darth Vader is like the original MGTOW who had his life ruined by getting involved with a woman.

Is it Anakin's terrible game or the terribleness of the actors in the scene?

No, it's almost all Lucas as a writer responsible for the prequels being worse than pure undistilled rape.

RE: Anakin's terrible game
It's more the terribleness of the script and the even more terribleness of the director. Even Lucas put up his hand to that: whenever people criticised Christensen's acting, he always said "Hayden acted precisely the way I told him to." Which is a pity since strong actors push back against their directors and maybe come up with a better option -- Liam Neeson putting his hand on Pernilla August's shoulder during The Phantom Movie was one such occasion -- but Christensen was in the role of a lifetime and was a new actor up against a giant in the industry.

Portman, though, has much less excuse. She'd been around longer -- but on the other hand Natalie Portman basically only has one facial expression to offer to film: the one she's wearing in this scene, the sort-of-polite-interest-but-I'm-too-good-for-this-stuff expression. Shit, she even wears that expression throughout the run of Closer, and consequently her stripper scenes don't get the smallest boner going. In Black Swan they keep the camera off her face during the masturbation and lesbian scenes (not that it helps a hell of a lot.)

RE: Anakin's terrible game
Having said all of that:

Insofar as it's a portrayal of a guy with serious psychological issues stemming back to birth, Anakin Skywalker as a character actually seems to echo a lot of Red Pill principles, or at least psychological principles relating to male agency, "Mr Nice Guy", and children of single parents. The execution of that character's portrayal is a fucking mess, but it does have some plausibility to it.

Let's go through character's background.
- Anakin doesn't have a father. Insofar as he gets one, it's Obi-Wan who's not much out of his teens himself.
- He doesn't have any other family than his mother.
- He's raised in traumatic conditions. There is also a really sinister implied set of circumstances to his past, too. Anakin is, after all, a literal slave, as is his mother. We know that Anakin and his mother were "sold by Gardulla the Hutt" to Watto from the backstory. We have already seen how Hutts treat human female slaves from how Leia is treated in ROTJ. We don't know what Anakin may have seen his mother forced to do as part of her slavery.
- Watto, Anakin's owner, is only interested in Anakin if he does everything Watto asks him to do.

ROK readers should be familiar with Nice Guy Syndrome. Nice guys are conditioned by their childhoods to o believe that they will be successful only if they make everyone happy and never cause any problems for others. However, this desire for approval results in self-loathing. In other words, nice guys want approval, but don't think they deserve it. This creates internal frustration, since nice guys never try to obtain what they want in life. In addition, the nice guy's desire to obtain approval from everyone (especially women), causes him to actually behave in very un-nice ways.

Consider the sort of things said about nine-year-old Anakin in Ep 1:
"He knows nothing of greed."
"He gives without any thought of reward."

Anakin is then torn away from his mother at nine years of age ... and then he immediately forms a serious infatuation for the closest female to him, Padme Amidala. He then is removed from that relationship, too, for ten years, during which he obsesses about her while in an organisation that pretty much guarantees he wasn't getting laid. He then obsesses about losing his mother (and does), and then obsesses about losing her (and eventually does via passive-aggression as much as anything else.)

What you're left with, then, is the Nice Guy writ large: a guy who continually tries to make others like him -- including while part of the Jedi Order -- and who lets his internal rage and frustration out in some seriously bad ways. Palpatine merely needed to manipulate these frustrations to bring Vader over to his side.

RE: Anakin's terrible game
Let's carry the (psycho)analysis a little bit further.

It's easy to regard Anakin's obsession with Padme as one-itis, but the films indicate in a pretty hamfisted way that it's actually something of an Oedipal complex. Anakin's first infatuation occurs at 9 when Amidala's roughly 14 or so, right after he's taken from his mother. The worst thing that can happen, then does happen: Anakin doesn't see her for 10 years, meaning he has all of his teenage first-masturbation years to obsess on her and build her up in his mind as the love of his life. This is not one-itis, it's one-itis on steroids.

It's worth noting here, again, that the Jedi Order appears to have cataclysmically bad judgment in figuring out how to raise Anakin. They have a kid before them who has objectively more potential power than the oldest and most experienced members of the Order, who is well past ordinary training age, and they then proceed to utterly fuck up his childhood by putting him on extended placement with a barely-twenties guy who has never taken an apprentice before and don't socialise him in any way to the Jedi Order before doing so.

So what, you might say. Government is government. Foster care always fucks up kids, ever and ever, amen. I could buy that -- except for the very fact the Order should fucking know how to look after kids. By definition it has a thousand generations of experience in ripping kids off their parents and still managing to turn them out as relatively undamaged people, the sorts of upstanding characters ito whom you can safely grant access to lethal energy weapons and world-smashing powers. The combination of stupidity the Order engages in by raising Anakin Skywalker is not explainable by the clouding of the Dark Side, and is explainable only by the hand of a shit screenwriter.

But then part of that I suspect was Lucas's own rejection of masculinity in favour of watered-down Eastern religion crap. His own religion he describes as "Buddhist Methodist" which is more or less a contradiction in terms. It's a very disappointing move, too, given the hero cycle of the original Star Wars is itself profoundly masculine.

One might note that Episodes 1,2, and 3 -- in comparison to 4,5, and 6 -- are profoundly asexual, or reject healthy male sexuality at least. About as close as you get to the Dreadful Deed is some amusing audience subversion of what Anakin's actually dreaming about in one scene (you all know the one I'm thinking of). It's all very Tristan and Isolde tragic chaste chivalric romance. Compare that to the earthy banter and tingles we get out of Han Solo and Leia in Empire Strikes Back. No fucking beta one-itis for Han Solo, that guy is the original alpha:

Han: You like me because I'm a scoundrel.
Leia: I happen to like nice men.
Han: I'm nice men.
Leia: No you're not, you're--
...and the rest of the line disappears in the kiss.

And let's not forget the metal bikini that launched a thousand costumes and is still inspiring female attention whores at conventions thirty years down the line.

But as said, there's basically not a hint of real sexiness in the PT. Portman in a midriff-bearing top (and unable to disguise how pissed off she feels in having to wear it) is about as hard as it goes. Haven't seen too many fans dressed up like her at a convention recently.

Indeed it's something I hold that even Ewan McGregor sensed when he jokingly reflected on the fact Obi-Wan doesn't get a look in on Natalie Portman. Now that would have been a story mechanic to put the conflict through the roof and put a whole new spin on Obi-Wan's caring for Luke: the idea of a love triangle between Anakin, Padme, and Obi-Wan could have charged the entire trilogy with the same sexual tension that powered Han and Leia's relationship through ESB at least. But because George Lucas believes male Jedi get their nuts cut off as well as their padawan braids when they're knighted, we don't see any of this. We instead see a distinctly feminine trilogy ... or a trilogy of films with only the feminine side ascendant.

RE: Anakin's terrible game
Anakin's game isn't interesting, it's Lucas's idea of game that is.

Lucas is a classic autist.

If it was just Lucas directing and throwing out ideas like the first three films then I wouldn't put the blame solely on him for the prequels. In the original trilogy he had a lot less control. In fact, The Empire Strikes Back, the film that includes the most iconic star wars moments, was directed by Irvin Kershner. And Lucas didn't even write the screenplay for it, he just contributed to the story. And he tried to get someone else (David Lynch) to direct Return Of The Jedi!

But he had total control over every aspect of the prequels. He not only directed Hayden poorly but all of his actors. Doing the prequels on his own completely sucked any emotion out of them.

Remember how Samuel L Jackson was in those movies? Samuel L Jackson, whose strength as an actor is playing badass dudes that get to yell a lot. Yet when he's stuck with Lucas directing all he's doing is saying boring and flat dialogue. This is why I can't put much blame on Hayden for his acting. Sure he could've stood up to Lucas, but why take the risk of getting fired? Lucas is notorious for firing people without much provacation. And in regards to episode 2, Hayden was the new guy playing Anakin. It's not like episode three where getting a new actor to portray the same chracter would've been weird.

I find it tough to get any sense of game understanding or insight with these movies. There's nobody to even compare Anakin's game with either. No one else in the film even remotely tries to get laid. Owen is already with Beru, and Anakin's mum was already with that fat guy in the wheelchair. There's no seduction and no emotion to any of it.

You might be able to get some laughs at how Anakin does everything wrong with Padme. But then your brain starts to hurt because despite Anakin's total faliure they end up marrying each other.

The only intriguing thing from a game perspective is Lucas himself. Anakin as a character isn't interesting, the fact that Lucas thinks that this is how to get a woman is.

RE: Anakin's terrible game
Unlike most people I don't hate prequels and consider the prequel hate an emotional illusion here is why:

1) I saw the original trilogy just before seeing the prequel trilogy. That's right I didn't see star wars as a child, I downloaded all six movies and watched them in my early twenties. I had no nostalgia and no expectations. I more or less liked all six movies.

I need to say this : both prequel and sequel trilogy is good, but they are different. People who hate sequels are expecting to see the same thing that impressed them in childhood for the second time, which is impossible.

2) I also discovered game about the same time I watched star wars. I very much related to Anakin and saw the story of his love affair with Padme as a pretty realisitc example on how oneitis can destroy a man, a situation I barely dodged myself (but still got scratced) by finding Game.

The original trilogy is more childish fun. The sequel trilogy is more darker and with more depth. I love the sequel trilogies for their realistic depiction of how a man get's corrupted (not without invoking a woman) and how dictatorships are born. I consider the hate of senate scenes shallow and immature, I liked those scenes as much as action scenes.

I hated Jar Jar from sequels but I also hated Treepio who had a lot more time in prequels. So it is as wide as long. Stop the hatin it's really overblown, the original trilogy is overrated and prequel trilogy is underrated..

RE: Anakin's terrible game
Anakin's an idiot for trying to wife up a hoe from Naboo.

Sure she's hot and slim now, but women from Naboo are all the same.

After sleeping with half the Dagoba system in college she'll hit her mid 20's and decide to "settle down", acting all feminine just long enough to secure a beta Jedi white knight provider. Dude should have read the signs, this entitled bitch has had droid servants and her parents telling her she's a princess her whole life therefore she can't cook, doesn't clean, and thinks she's better than him.

She'll then quit her job as queen of Naboo because she's unhaaaaaappy to start some vanity project - something that she claims has "always been her dream", like a specialty cupcake shop or rebellion against the Galactic Empire or something (which her husband will be expected to pay for).

Meanwhile her beta cuck hubby will be off fighting battles to provide her with the latest droids, spaceships and ever-larger palaces to try to please her and when he comes back she'll be mysteriously pregnant with twins. He'll marvel to himself at how potent he is that he knocked her up when she only lies there bored and allows him to penetrate her once a month, not realizing that the real daddy is some alpha bad boy from the Mos Eisley Cantina who raw-dogged and force-choked her to multiple orgasms.

Of course by the time he takes the red pill it will be way too late, he'll end up as some bitter, twisted MRA/MGTOW posting on Sith forums before eventually going all Elliot Rodger some poor tribe on Tattooine instead of travelling the galaxy, improving himself and learning Game.

It's the kids I feel sorry for though. The son will never know his real Dad and end up hating this guy, meanwhile the daughter will end up repeating her slutty mother's hypergamous antics with a series of scruffy-looking nerf-herders.

This is why I advise my friends to marry a nice traditional woman from Hoth or Geonosis instead.

RE: Anakin's terrible game
How to be a player in Coruscant:

1: Get elected to the senate.

2: Start bribing and assassinating anyone in your way
2a(optional) become a lord of the sith and create chaos through a morten's fork type of war, where whatever side wins, you are really the winner.

3: make it vague enough so that no one has any idea what you are really up to.(including the audience)

4: Get a Gungan on the senate and have him propose that the senate give you temporary military control and become a dictator to get through the current conflict

5: Run dictator game. You are the dictator of the galaxy, just create a task force to collect the hottest women of each species in the galaxy and have them work in your cabinet as "assistants."

A bunch of celibate jedi who wear long robes and have secret ceremonies, who go and collect young children from around the galaxy and have them train with a big laser phallus while having their faces covered with those funky helmets. Then assigning a young child to each elder jedi who will teach the child about the penetrative power of the force. . .

I think I know what fucked up Anakin.

I wonder if women like being force choked or choked by the bare hands of a sith lord more. If they were really freaky they could take light shocking from electric force powers.

Women must love dark sith lord sex game.
