Quote:Hungary cancels Magyar Telekom contracts in sexism row
By Marton Dunai and Sandor Peto
Dec 17 Hungary's government told ministries and other state institutions to cancel subscriptions with Magyar Telekom on Thursday in a row over the telecom operator's decision to end a sponsorship deal with a pop singer over his remarks about women.
The singer, Akos Kovacs, is known to support the ruling centre-right Fidesz party. The government, which has made waves in recent days with a conservative take on gender equality, said Kovacs had been subject to unfair discrimination by Magyar Telekom, a subsidiary of Deutsche Telekom, over remarks in which he said it was not women's role to earn as much as men.
Magyar Telekom severed links with Kovacs after the singer's comments to private television channel Echo TV on Sunday, in which he also said that women had better "fulfil the female calling by belonging to someone, bearing a child for someone."
Magyar Telekom said in a statement to news portal index.hu on Wednesday that the remarks were incompatible with the company's diversity principles and it was withdrawing its sponsorship deal with Kovacs.
"Our company does not think the spirit of the artist's interview ... is compatible with our group's beliefs and values, Magyar Telekom said.
"Magyar Telekom is committed to ensure equal opportunities for women and men and sustain sexual equality in all circumstances."
The controversy was discussed at a government meeting on Wednesday, government spokesman Zoltan Kovacs - no relation to the singer - told state news agency MTI on Thursday.
"The government was shocked to learn about Telekom's action, which we believe violates both the spirit and letter of the Hungarian constitution," Zoltan Kovacs told MTI.
"It might be possible in Germany but we cannot accept anyone to suffer discrimination for his opinion and views."
Zoltan Kovacs said the review of contracts with Magyar Telekom was under way, adding that the termination of 103 contracts at one ministry had already been initiated. The cancellation would not affect a strategic 1 billion euro cooperation agreement with Magyar Telekom, he added.
Senior Fidesz officials have made controversial comments about gender equality in recent days. Fidesz elder statesman and Parliament speaker Laszlo Kover told the party's congress on Sunday that as a community, Fidesz wanted none of what he called "gender madness."
"We don't want to turn Hungary into a futureless society of man-hating women and woman-fearing, feminine men who only see children and families as an obstacle to self-fulfilment," he said to wild applause.
"We wish that our daughters considered bearing grandchildren for us to be the highest quality of self-fulfilment."
He also said: "We don't want the Soros-style so-called open society, which is open to, or rather defenceless against all destructive manipulation governed by external interests."
Quote:The interview with Akos Kovacs, the singer, was aired hours after Kover's speech. Asked what his problem was with gender equality, Kovacs said:
"It leads to there being female weightlifting, to put it in stark terms. Who benefits, I don't know and I would not want to say. I don't like that. It's not the job of women to make the same amount of money that men do. That's how I feel." (Reporting by Marton Dunai and Sandor Peto; editing by Jason Neely and Susan Fenton)
This has been the leading news story in Hungary the last couple of days, and it finally appeared in international media yesterday. From comments on Hungarian articles it seems that the opinion of people is mostly divided based on which party they support, with most Fidesz supporters agreeing with the statements and the government's move. Akos (the singer) also gave a large concert in Budapest a few days after his comments were made, and guest numbers were not affected at all.
Personally, I was delighted to hear the statements of government officials (which were made on the yearly congress of Fidesz last week, by the way) and that they have made such a strong statement against western-style witch hunts straight after. Giving it some more though, I am not sure if such a high level, drastic move was the right decision considering its long term effects. Magyar Telekom (=T-Mobile Hungary) is one of the largest employers in the country, and is also 27% owned by the German government.
More experienced members might be able to draw a more insightful conclusion, but I thought this was definitely worth sharing as it is the first instance of a government standing up against this feminist way of shutting down people who speak against their agenda that I know of.

Keep in mind though....like MikeCF said, when you think that someone's out to get you because of a PC witch hunt it's almost always the other way around: there's a PC witch hunt on because someone's already out to get you. I wouldn't be surprised if what actually happened is that the relevant government officials received an "incentive" to switch contracts from another provider as well as a good justification .

This seems to me to be an eminently stupid move by the government. Did they really expect a large company that sells a commodity service to the general public to continue to employ as its spokesperson someone saying stupid shit like that. No company should employ as its spokesperson someone who says crazy crap like that about an entire class of its customers. Instead of penalizing T-Mobile for acting appropriately, the government instead should be focused on getting best value for its money. Of course no government actually does that.
The spokesperson should be free to say whatever he thinks, but he cannot expect to continue being employed as a spokesperson after doing so.

The spokesperson had every right to give his opinion on the topic. The corporation had every right to fire the spokesperson for doing so. And the government had every right to terminate the corporation's contract for firing the spokesperson. What's fair for the goose is fair for the gander, no brah? It's a free world, you can do whatever the FUCK you wanna do.
In all seriousness, cucking! aside, this is actually a very deep move by the Hungarian government. Why does the SJW madness have such an iron grip in the West? It's because there is a climate of terror among everyone. Say the "wrong" thing and lose your job. Become ostracized. So the entire social dynamic is rotten because the SJW's in position of influence have the power to destroy people's livelihoods. What the Hungarian government is saying to the subversives is simply this: you can try to terrorize our people in order to cow them and push your sick agenda, but you will pay a price for it. Now it's not just the normal, wholesome people that have to live in fear of standing up for their beliefs. The SJW subversives now have to fear taking actions against those people, and know that doing it will hit them where it hurts, their wallets.
Hungary, NO!

Politicians who actually act according to their values? God help us!
You say "penalized", who is getting penalized here? I don´t see it.
Have you ever heard of this thing called "Freedom of contract"?
Yes, the spokesperson should be free to say what he thinks, and it´s of course also Telekom's good right to terminate his contract after his remarks apparently violate the company's values or those of its management.
But guess what, it's also the government's good right to, if they should wish so, terminate the contracts with it's business partner Telekom for acting against the government's values and interests.
I'm sure all the necessary legal proceedings to end this part of their business relationship were conducted according to Hungarian contract law.
RE: Hungarian government cancels T-Mobile contracts in sexism row
Well done Mr. Orban. But this is not just another case of Hungary vs. SJWism, there is also a geopolitical dimension to this move. By cancelling all contracts with Magyar Telekom, Orban is opening a new front in his attempts to curb German influence in Hungary (since German state-owned T-Com has a big stake in Magyar Telekom). Of all the Central European countries of the Visegrad Group (Hungary, Poland, Czech Republic and Slovakia), Hungary is most invested in fighting Angela Merkel's Fourth Reich of kumbaya-SJW-liberalism, also sometimes referred to as the 'EU'.
Quote:An “in-depth investigation” was opened on March 12, 2015 into Hungary’s new advertisement tax, under which companies are taxed at a rate depending on their advertisement turnover. Companies with a higher turnover are subject to a significantly higher tax rate. The tax was designed in such a way that RTL Klub, Hungary’s most successful commercial television station, would have to pay such an exorbitant advertisement tax that its very presence in Hungary would be jeopardized.
RTL is also present in Croatia, where they're one of the biggest private TV networks. If you're not familiar with what RTL stands for, their agenda is basically a mishmash of mindless American TV shows, liberal/progressive propaganda, outright degeneracy such as Big Brother and other reality shows, all mixed up with a subtle touch of promoting German corporate interests. It is therefore hardly surprising that during the recent immigrant crisis that brought Hungary into the media spotlight, Croatian RTL was on the forefront of propaganda efforts against Hungary and Orban. No other TV station came close to their relentless efforts, it was cringe worthy to watch.

The best news of the day. Hungary seems to be comitted to not being cucked. I don't even think Orban had thought he'd become this freedom fighter figure, but no one can deny that now he has become that.
I was in Hungary in spring time, it's a great country, could easily live there. There's a great mix of girls there too, nordic and southern looking both.

RE: Hungarian government cancels T-Mobile contracts in sexism row
I wanted to post about this. I have mixed feelings about the whole thing though. I speak Hungarian, so I watched the controversial snippet of the interview with Ákos, the comments and the media frenzy that followed.
Those of you who speak Hungarian (I don't know if there are any), here is the infamous part of the interview:
The original transcript:
Ákos: A nőknek nem az a dolguk, hogy ugyanannyi pénzt keressenek, mint a férfiak. Én így érzem.
Riporter: Nem az a dolguk?
Ákos: Nem az a dolguk.
Riporter: Mi a dolguk a nőknek?
Ákos: Hát, mondjuk a női princípiumot beteljesíteni, nem? Hogy mondjuk valakihez tartozni. Valakinek gyereket szülni. Anyának lenni.
Riporter: A kettő kizárja egymást?
Ákos: Nagyon úgy tűnik, hogy igen. Hogy leszel anya, hogy töltesz a gyerekeiddel elég időt, ha vezető állású nem tudom ki vagy, nem tudom hány forintért.
Here is a rough translation:
Ákos: It's not women's job [duty] to earn as much money as men. That's how I feel.
Reporter: It's not their job?
Ákos: It's not.
Reporter: What is women's job?
Ákos: Well, maybe to fulfil the female principles, isn't it? To belong to someone. Bear someone's children. To be a mother.
Reporter: Are the two exclusive?
Ákos: It very much seems so, yes. How can you be a mother, how can you spend enough time with your children if you are an I don't know what with an executive job for I don't know how much money.
Who can't agree with this? I mean if someone says this is not true, then he's saying it is women's job to earn as much as men. Really? That's what they should do? I don't mind if a woman makes as much as a man but is it really their calling to make as much as a man? Pathetic.
I agree with the guy's views, no doubt about that. And kudos to the government for making a stand. However before jumping to conclusions, I would like to share some background information and facts.
First let me start with the current governing party, Fidesz and the prime minister, Viktor Orbán. Although they share a lot of the views we support here, I would strongly oppose blindly following them. To put it briefly: the ideas are (mostly) good, the execution is simply poor. First of all, the government is really corrupt. Their goal is not to serve the people and make their lives better, it is to get as rich as possible. Examples abound. There is a friend of Orbán's who came from the village where Orbán lives. He went from an ordinary gasfitter to one of the richest man in Hungary. All within a few years. What a coincidence. This pop singer, Ákos is a well-known supporter of the party and is heavily backed by the government. He receives subsidies from the government worth several hundred thousand dollars (not forints) annually. So even though I find the move of Magyar Telekom disgusting, the backlash of the government was probably not because of the move itself but because it was against one of its pals (the reason he got the sponsorship in the first place I guess).
What is troublesome as well is the reaction of the media and the people. Feminism is slowly spreading everywhere, hence the majority of people are strongly against Ákos's words. A shame really. What is even more ridiculous is the picture the media are trying to paint. They are manipulating everything to make their case look better. In the original interview when Ákos lists the duties of women, the last thing he says is "anyának lenni" (to be a mother) but this is not clearly heard as he's interrupted by the reporter. Ákos repeats this but meanwhile the reporter's talking as well, so it can't be heard as clearly as his other points but still, it's obviously there. The transcript that can be read in the online media obviously omitted that part.

The former Iron Curtain countries shine as examples of how to say "GO FUCK YOURSELF!" to the evil doers on issues such as the Muslim invasion and SJWism.

That would be great, unfortunately that's not the reason. There are two big commercial TV stations in Hungary, the aforementioned RTL Klub and TV2. The latter was run by a huge pal of Orbán, Lajos Simicska. They had a fallout and now the owner of TV2 is Andy Vajna who misteriuosly wins every public tender. You can make the most money if there is no competition, right? So it'd best to demolish RTL Klub.
These two channels are basically the same anyway. TV2 has Big Brother and RTL Klub another dumb reality show. The only difference between them is ownership. That's the sad reality, not that they're trying to stop the brainwash.

Even if every allegation of corruption is 100% true, that is still an extremely small price to pay for the very survival of your nation. Chump change, really. Look at America's ostensibly squeaky clean politicians. They may not siphon money directly, but they are beholden to powerful donors and implement destructive policies so that after their term is over they can make millions (still chump change) in some bullshit advisory role for Wall Street firms.
Orban may steal $100m direct. His American counterpart will launch a war costing the country $4 trillion on behalf of his elite puppet masters. So in reality, America loses far more money in corruption than the great majority of "banana republics." It's just much more inefficient, in that for every dollar our politicians actually earn, they cost the country $1000. In Hungary the ratio is much closer to 1:1.

Most allegations of corruption are unfortunately true. It is being done in blatantly obvious ways and sometimes it seems like the government isn't even trying to hide it. Nonetheless, I completely agree with you in that it is still a very small price to pay if in return Hungary won't succumb to the western feminist ideologies as long as Fidesz is in power. If you have a decent job in Hungary (or better yet income from abroad) the corruption does not affect you in any way in practice, but the atmosphere of the country and general attitude of people always does.
If only Hungary managed to keep a government with similar views until western countries start collapsing visibly...
