This is sadly part of a much larger issue pertaining to extended childhood and adolescence in the west, where you have overgrown womanchildren basing their identity on glorified toys and pop culture inanity.

Anyone who takes anything to an obsessive compulsive level has trouble finding/keeping a partner. Look at how many pro athletes and self made rich guys cycle through marriages, sure it's partly due to having a lot of options but it's also to do with the fact that everything else, including their partner and kids, comes second.

When you take away the lure of money and/or fame, then there is nothing attractive about obsession, in fact it's actually off putting. Doesn't matter if it's drugs, anime, computer games, sport or the gym. Taking anything too far is unattractive.
