A few Friday's ago in Vitoria my pivot picked me up to go to a party. In the front seat was a 5 who lived in the US for a year and had underwent that Americanization process that makes Brazilian girls less attractive. In the back with me is an 8 with exotic features and nice full lips. We all make small talk in Portuguese for a few minutes then the 8 turns to me and says in English "I just broke up with my boyfriend."

I haven't had a girl say this to me before so it caught me off guard. I said something lame like "that sucks" and picked up the conversation where we left off. After that her interest in me started to decline and I feel it's because of how I responded to her statement. Assuming I did everything else right, what should I have done/said in response to her statement in order to build the greatest amount of attraction?

What was it that she was actually tried to communicate? That she was available, seeking attention or genuinely sad?

Heck, I'd smile a little coyly and kiss her cheek. And then when she's looking at me 'like WTF are you doing' I'd just kept looking in her eyes and say "you'll be ok". That's my kind of game though (heavy on subtleties about what we're doing later, the entire cheek kissing you can get away more easily with as European as well). It all depends on what kind of reaction she was hoping for which is difficult to gauge from your brief post.

Just dropping stuff from the top of my head. There's too little info from your post alone.

Indifferent, asshole game doesn't work all the time all over the world. We have to be careful when we venture into different societies and try to implement tried and true strategies here in the States.

But even generally speaking, her letting you know she just broke up with her boyfriend, wasn't direct code for we're going to be fucking in a few hours. Not that I suggest talking with her about it for hours on end, but she wants to at least believe you can empathize with her situation, and ultimately you want to put on that not only you can, but you can also help her take that negative shit off her brain -- at least temporarily.

"That sucks" didn't convey that you could.

Thats when you make your move... grab her face and look into her eyes for a moment and kiss her wherever you want but dont make it serious. A two second sympathy kiss.

This conveys two powerful and conflicting values:
1. You're sympathetic and you get it.
2. You're not fucking around.

If you think this is weird it's not. Treat it like she said her father died (I know that's kind of odd, it's just a frame of reference).

You can "continue conversation" after that. Talk about her feelings and whatnot and get her all worked up.

Put your hand on her shoulder and say, "Don't worry you'll meet another guy. There are a lot of fish in the sea." Then point to a really lame dude in the club and say, "How about that guy? He seems really nice." She'll say, "Ew no I don't like him." Then you can laugh or say, "I was just trying to help. "

If it was me I woulda asked "why" when she said that and kept her engaged until I found an angle to make my interests known in a subtle way.

Or something slick like "let's celebrate then"

"Let's drink to that" is my favorite response however, you are in a car, and I don't recommend drinking and driving as it attracts too much 5-O attention even when it's the passengers doing the drinking.

So, that would only work at a bar or where alcohol is accessible as your verbal response must match your physical one.

holding her hand, and looking at her dead in the eyes for an entire 30 seconds without saying a single word would be most effective. She'll know wassup, and will escalate it further with more IOI's as the night progresses.

Since I was in the car I would probably do something like this.

This fits my style pretty well so I would use this if there was a dorky looking guy in the area.

No surprise the man himself comes through with solid advice on this one. By saying "that sucks" you help her mind dwell on the break-up, because most of the time break ups do suck. You want to keep her mood positive, so a joke is a great way to steer the conversation out of that zone.

Now in the back of your mind, you should be taking notes, because she just gave you a huge piece of info. Your focus can be shifted to being her temporary rebound bang, as she's likely gone out just looking for kicks.
