Gender and sex are interchangeable. Sometime in the ~1950s we had this push to try and differentiate gender from sex, but there is literally zero scientific evidence to validate the idea that gender is distinct from sex. Newspeakian language policing should be resisted, so using either is fine.

'Gender' is not interchangeable with sex round these parts.

Made up, meaningless words should definitely be policed to the point of extinction.

Make the decision to never use the word 'gender'. You are not part of the solution otherwise.
