Roosh invited me to participate in his forums after we started a long conversation offline. We share similar ideas about a lot of things, despite different personalities. He's a sophisticate; I'm a geek.

Some of the things we were discussing have to do, indirectly, with things that happen when civilizations get old. Civilizations, at least as they are currently implemented, contain the seeds of their own destruction. The accumulation of infrastructure that produces abundance and an easy life, also allows parasitism and fragility (as Nassim Taleb would call it) to accumulate. Eventually civilizations are destroyed by their own self-parasitism and unwillingness to adapt to change. See the clip below. Mel Gibson wasn't really commenting about the Maya. And the drought that killed their maize wasn't their primary problem.

I'm a family-man and a small businessman. We're a homeschooling family, and I am grateful that this is still an option but I suspect it won't be for future generations. I have some keen interests in personal development, but I'll save that for discussions in appropriate forums.

What I really want to talk about is what are you most passionate about? What is that special interest of yours that really fires up your enthusiasm?

I look forward to reading the answers. Overcome and thrive!

I'm passionate about fishing, I've been watching salmon and sturgeon fishing videos on Youtube all afternoon and they give me a boner. I would honestly rather catch a huge fish than bang a legit nine that I met at a bar, the thrill of reeling in a massive fish excites me more than almost anything in the world.
BC SALMON

BC STURGEON, 1100 POUNDER!!!

I think that hunting and fishing are two of the most alpha things that a guy can do, if you've never done either then I encourage you to look into it and do so asap!

It's a greeting in Sanksrit. You've probably seen the more common "Namaste". Namovah would be the correct form when addressing a crowd.

Namovah literally means "I bow to you", but figuratively it has a deeper and more poetic meaning.

But I have a feeling I'd better stop there before this crowd eats me alive. Blush

Pleased to virtually "meet" you.

Searched them separately, with slightly modified spellings
Namovah seems an obvious derivative of Namah/Nams/Namaste

Well, first you've got a transliteration problem. Sanskrit predates alphabets. It's usually rendered in written form in Devanagari.

If you transliterate it into a Latin alphabet you've got the problem that several consonants are missing, so you need to use a lot of diacritical marks, or render it just approximately. There are several different styles of transliterating it into the Latin alphabet.

The endings of words are inflected for case, number, and gender. Number could be singular, dual, or plural.

Yes that is why I used other spellings with similar pronunciation. Lets not turn this into a Sanksrit thread.

RE: Welcome to the Empire! Greetings from a fellow serf.
The reason I asked is that I always found the words Namaste and Namaaz (Iranian word for worship, used by Muslims) quite interestingly related to the words Name and Naam (Sanskrit for Name).

Such a connection would imply that the idea of giving someone a Name or calling them by one is an act of respect or honor.

Quote:I agree with you, this is why I was very cautions to mention that it was a hypothesis. The semantic link exists. You see, nam - namati is not just 'to bend' it is fore-mostly 'to bend to' or 'subject oneself to'. Likewise, in Avestan nam is 'to bend (in homage)'. Also mamas is not just 'bow' but a 'reverential salutation'; namas- √kṛ is 'to utter a salutation'. There is a small step from salutation to naming and name (or the other way round: to name - to salute - to bend to)

http://forum.wordreference.com/threads/s...z.2371883/

But then the convergence of the root "Nam" where it means both Naming and Honoring would appear to go back a long way. It also suggests that a Name is something much more important then how we think of it. Such an idea would be lost on us, as most of us have names that are unrelated to our lives and in languages we dont understand.

Another interesting connection I know of is between the English "Daughter" and Sanskrit "Duhitar". Both mean the same thing except the Sanskrit Duhitar actually literally translates "Milk-Maid". The English one does'nt break down. The idea being that some earlier peoples referred to their daughters as Milk-Maids (sort of pet name) and this stuck.

The correlation between Name and Namaste is much more interesting and possibly gives us a glimpse into the daily culture of some people living in prehistoric times.

Anyway, I guess this answers the question of what I am interested in.

Your minions hold you in such awe, some of them didn't believe I could possibly have been deemed worthy. Good heavens, I didn't mean to name-drop! Blush That was just the explanation for how I showed up.

I am honored.

I'll pick up the collapse theme...and others...after they've habituated to me. They're still mostly referring to me in the 3rd person. Might take a while yet to earn their respect. Tough crowd. Tough crowd. Love it!
