A Knesset (Israeli Parliament) member - Merav Ben Ari, from the center-right party of Kulanu (translation: All of us) has announced this week that she is pregnant with the semen of a gay friend.

No, he did not sleep with her. She was inseminated.

Brief bio:
40 years old.
Studied at a high class (ivy league equivalent) college for BA and MBA.
Attention whore - won a 2005 reality show called "Needed: A Leader". A failed reality show in which the contestants were required to preform acts of "social responsibilities".
Used the money she won to start NGO of competitive sports for youth.
In 2013 she was elected to Tel Aviv city council. In 2015 joined the new rising star of Moshe Kahlon (former Likud member) which founded the new party.

In an interview for Jewish new year (this year it is on October 2nd) she declared that (link in hebrew):

It's just the consistency/commitment principle at play. This is textbook Robert Cialdini.

She's "musing" publicly to a) force herself to believe her own attempts at rationalization and b) fish for compliments/support to further rationalize.

If women were truly happy with these choices, why would they need to be made so publicly?

Admittedly, she's engaging in a hard personal self-sell. Biological imperatives can't be overridden easily, but it's certainly possible.

Just as society can convince kids that they have a "right" to pump hormones of the opposite sex into their bodies and put their genitals under the knife, a 40-something attention-seeker in the Israeli Knesset with nothing to offer men can soothe her misery by saying a man offers her nothing, other than semen.

She does appear to be the stereotypical career woman, but her facial expressions don't look like she would be standoffish & man-hating.

I would like to ask this woman and others like her, "if you could go forward 25 years and ask your son or daughter's opinion on whether they would like to have normal home life with a biological father, would you give a shit what they wanted?"
