Best Romanian 2nd Tier City over Bucharest? Timosoara, Iasi
Hi Guys,

Anyone been to Timisoara?

Been travelling FSU and will post some datasheets soon, moving on from Ukraine now and am in the proccess of deciding with Romanian city to base myself for a month.

I am particularly excited about Ro because I love the Balkans & Latin America. As a balkan country and many reports stating Romania almost has a latin feel I have high expectations.

While Bucharest would be the obvious choice I want some more info on the 2nd Tier cities that I am considering. There is lots of good info on Bucharest on the forum, some on Iasi & Cluj but very little on Timo.

I have narrowed it down too 3.

Timisoara
Iasi
Bucharest

The forum put me off Cluj Napoca.

My priorities are equally split between Quality, Easiness & Cost of Living. I use Nightgame & Daygame equally but heavy drinking at weekends is enough. Please note I will visit Bucharest anyway for two weeks if I decide on a 2nd Tier city for the month.

Bucharesr?
Bucharest sounds best for quality overall, but I realise it will be expensive comparitively. Thats why I have been considering Iasi & Timosoara.

Iasi?
I have heard quality matches Bucharest in Iasi but in smaller doses and the nightlfe sucks and its abit of a shithole.

Timisoara?
This led me to look at Timisoara which is close to Belgrade which I absolutely love, I know its a nice university city and am assuming that quality will be good as its so close to Serbia which I rank the 2nd best country in Europe for girls after Ukraine. But I need some data to confirm this but if the locals share a similar culture perhaps makes it harder too, Belgrade is not easy short term.

About me:
Average Height
Late 20s
White
Slim Build
Worked as a PUA in London for a couple years. (Then gave up to travel.
Exstensively travelled.

I was under the impression that Cluj was the best 2nd-tier city due to the college life. I have even been there, and it was pretty nice. What the heck did this forum say about it ??

Been a few years since I was in Timisoara but the quality in the clubs was certainly there. Like you said it's has a uni and a lot of young people in general.
Bucharest is still the place to go if you want a rich party/concert scene. Can't compare the prices etc since I visited them 7 years apart.

Cheers guys,
@Cyclone, posts by users including Roosh saying that their are many tourists and students from neighbourng countrys and western europe which dilutes the quality and mentality towards foreigners.

I lived in both cities, Timisoara and Cluj. I'm in Cluj now and i can tell you nightlife is better here. Indeed, there also is more competition because there are a lot of foreigners, but they are here for a reason, it's easy for them. I'm a newbie in game but if anyone wants more info about Cluj or Timisoara I can gladly do a more up-to-date datasheet

I had a great time in Cluj for 3 months. I didn't notice that many foreigners. Girls are hot as hell. They're everwhere in the streets. You can walk the whole city more or less. I found a decent gym. There's two big malls. There's a bar you can go to pretty much every night of the week.

Not sure why Cluj isn't getting any love on the forum.

Were there many English speakers there? Girls speak English?

RE: Best Romanian 2nd Tier City over Bucharest? Timosoara, Iasi
Hey all,
As a romanian native, I've been visiting or lived in all the cities mentioned in this post. To help out folks here, I'll post some information which I think is relevant. Pls PM if you have specific questions.

All below cities have big universities (start Oct 1st-close end of June) with good nightlife and day game possibilities. Day game is recommended for better quality (especially if you are looking for something beyond ONS). Most of the young people speak good or very good english, so there will be no communication issues. Food is great and cheap (especially in Iasi). Private apartments (rent range 20-50 euro/day) on Booking.com or AirBnb or local websites.
With the recent global warming, weather can be quite unpredictable: very hot in summer - June-September- 35+ degrees (Bucharest/Timisoara) and quite cold (below -5 degrees) in winter - December to April - (Iasi/Cluj).

Bucharest:
- good nightlife but overall a bit more expensive (20%) than any other city in Romania
- girls bitch shield is highest (on par with Timisoara) due to increased western exposure and higher salaries
- air quality and traffic is quite bad..
- the Old city is the center of nightlife, but several upscale clubs (especially in the North) can be found spread out

Iasi:
- girls quality is better than Bucharest or Timisoara (especially if you are looking beyond ONS)
- more conservative, innocent idealist type
- best sightseeing/cultural objectives
- cheapest from all cities in the list (as income is quite low)
- food is great
- people are warm and welcoming
- if you go between october-june you'll find a lot of students in bar/clubs

Cluj:
- girls quality equals Iasi but competition is higher (especially in the past 2-3 years) no of foreigners has increased
- recommend to visit Sibiu/Sighisoara (nearby) if interested in history (medieval towns)
- good clubs and bars

Timisoara:
- highest rate of gold diggers, due to western influence and sometimes higher income
- good nightlife, especially for electronic music
- girls can be quite bitchy here..

For me ranking would be: 1.Iasi; 2.Cluj; 3.Bucharest and 4.Timisoara

Do these apartment prices from Numbeo sound realistic to people who've been on the ground?
$300 in Timisoara $400 in Bucharest?

Yes, for $300 you can get a nice and modern 1-bedroom apartment in the city center in Timisoara. You can even negotiate to $250 if you're staying long term or pay 3-4 months in advance. Don't know about Bucharest but $400 looks realistic enough.

I would say in general yes (depends on the rental period 3 to 6 months min). Usually rent doesn't include the utilities cost: Heating, water, TV, internet, electricity etc
- Bucharest - med/long term you can find a 1 bedroom (25 to 40 sqm) in the center (cismigiu/universitate/unirii) from 250 to 350 euro or 400 euro (luxury)
For Bucharest you can have a look at this website
("Anuntul telefonic" is a well known real estate newspaper and website where you can find ads from local real estate agencies - note you'll pay 1 month as commission or private owners - better no fee) or you can try http://www.imobiliare.ro/

If you had a week to spend in Romania in late August where would you go (besides Bucharest)? I understand that Uni classes won't start until October.

Are all the other cities dead at this time? Are Brasov or Iasi even an option, or is everyone at the coast?

The populations of these 2nd tiers seems quite low. If you're looking to hit high numbers is there any city realistically other than Bucharest?

Many 2nd tier cities have around 300,000 people. I don't think you will exhaust that many opportunities via daygame, online or nightgame in a a few months, let alone a week or two.

Ratios in Old town Bucharest were bad in my experience, primarily due to foreign male tourists. If all the horny foreign dudes are in one city, then I'm open to exploring other cities.

@Veul

Is Constanza still good at the end of August?

I don't know, I've lived in 300k cities and start to see the same people.

I'm thinking 2 options

1) Bucharest - mainly daygame, in high foot traffic streets and malls but not in Old Town, to avoid male tourists

2) Iasi - lots of students, all type of game, everywhere. Some people are calling Iasi pretty good, pictures of it look nice, but others calling it a shithole. A bit confusing but low rents are good.

I didn't think Bucharest would be invaded by sex tourists yet, I thought it was still too much of a shithole.

Those cities will suck during August. The students are away and most of the locals are on holiday.

I should have added: I don't mean during August, I mean in general. I don't travel in peak tourist time as a default.
