I know there must be a spin to make it really interesting, but need some help how exactly. I am south asian, grew up in south east asia, did my bachelors in the rocky mountain west and am now in the midwest.

So, when a cold approach inevitably asks "where you from?", what should I say?

I have a fairly american accent so could just say "rockies", or should I say something funny like "how much time you got?"

Go with the latter. If a chick is asking a personal type question it's usually a soft sign of interest, girls that don't give a fuck about you,well...they don't give a fuck and usually don't ask such things. Of course you have to calibrate depending on the situation and if she seems like it's a chore asking.

Anyway, if she's asking you that and appears interested, she's extending you an opportunity to impress her. Chicks love guys with "a story", so give her one. It doesn't matter what it is as long as it says something mysterious about you. Don't say "grew up here, went to school there, ect"

This one is my favorite by far. If she goes for it and endures my teasing and bullshit clues during the guessing, it's always a huge sign that she likes me and is up for fun.

My look is so racially ambiguous that "guess" became routine for me.

But I also learned to only give them three guesses. Otherwise the interaction doesn't move forward, and into her pants.

Whatever nationality you're from "OWN IT!". Most importantly it does not matter, but your presence ,enjoyment of the interaction is crucial.
Forget about the micro-management and focus on aspects which will get you closer to banging her.

You're new to game, approach more often chicks, you'll make mistakes and learn from them then figure out what works and not for you.

Tell her about your origins, be proud about it yet sentimental, then wrap it up by saying something like "blah blah blah tough life, make something of myself, go back and help my countrymen blah blah blah"
