If you're willing to go through these painful acts, which will hurt weeks(maybe months) after the fact, why not go to the gym?
It's gonna hurt way less and it will actually be good for you.

I remember watching Jackass on TV. No smartphones or HD cameras for few hundred ££/$$.

I think he's playing out the amount of pain for the sake of the videos. If you watch closely he will stop for a second look at the camera then egg it on some more.

Now with the firecracker vest, if you look under the fat of his left arm you can actually see the damage done. He sandwiched the explosions between the fat, which will do more damage. The rest of it would probably hurt a bit, but if he kept his arms up and covered his ears he'd probably walk away unscathed.
