Family tries to set you up
My uncle works at a car dealership and called me to say there is a 23 year old girl that works there and he told her he has a nephew and if he could set us up. He said something about showing pictures but she just said give him my number and have him contact me. So she doesn't know what I look like. As for me, since he gave me her number I was actually able to see on snapchat her username is her first and last name, and using that I found her on Facebook and she is very attractive.

So my question is how do I approach this? Text/call? What should I say? Kind of an interesting/awkward situation I've never been in before- usually I tell relatives if they want to set me up to show a picture of me to the girl and if she's interested I'll contact her. In this situation my uncle tried to do this but she told him to just give me her number and have me contact her.

Thanks!

Don't overthink it. Just call her and tell her that you heard from the grapevine that she is a cool chick and that you'd like to hang out. Ask her what off days are, and then tell her that you'll call her back once you've picked a venue. Ask her if she'd like you to pick her up, or meet you there. Done deal. These kind of situations are best to be straight to the point. No point in having a really long phone conversation or an endless game of text messages. A little bit of mystery is better than blabbing too much on the phone. If you two enjoy each others' company in person, go from there. Don't overthink it.

Call her up and ask her out for drinks.

Its no big deal just a few drinks, so don't make it a big deal.

Just give her a call or send here a text. Back in the day I had this happen to me and I was too much of a wimp to pursue anything. This was pre-Facebook so gathering intel was much harder. Never followed through and years later figured out who the girl was and I'm still kicking myself for that.

This was my first thought, and when I read the previous replies I thought I was taking crazy pills.

Mixing business, family and romance, even with a degree of separation is just insane. Unless you're seriously thinking of settling down and you're screening for good LTR candidates then run a mile from this insanity.

RE: Family tries to set you up
^ Yeah, when things go south in a relationship, as they often do with modern young women, the last thing I need is for one more person who wants to "hold me accountable" for something or other.

If this relationship works and then it doesn't because the 23 y/o HB turns out to be a looney toon, unless dear Uncle is a RooshV forum member, who do you think is going to take the fall for it? "Sorry, Uncle, you just have terrible judgement when it comes to women."

Nah, it's going to be your fault - first, last, always. Depending on the relative's personality type you may never hear the end of it. It's the sort of thing that can cause severe family drama and falling outs.

Whenever one of my friends or family tells me "So I know this great girl..." I'm immediately thinking:

I'm sure some of them have good intentions, but sorry, I'm pretty sure you guys just haven't done the research.

Before I jumped into a deal like that, I'd think long and hard about my relationship with my relative and what their personality was like. I don't want to be too cynical about it; I have no idea what OP's family life is like. I'm just saying that for my part I'd want to make sure that there's not some kind of unspoken quid pro quo going on here. Again, just hypothetically speaking, one can imagine a situation where the relative's business falters, and then they're suddenly calling in favors you didn't realize you had agreed to. "But I set you up with your girlfriend! Doesn't that mean anything?" Has a hypothetical situation like that happened before? Of course it has.

A situation involving both family, business, AND game is exactly the kind of situation one should be "overthinking."

Talk to her. You have nothing to lose. Dont move too fast and confirm what your Uncle is trying to sell you.

RE: Family tries to set you up
Youre far away enough imo for this not to be a potential drama.

You dont work with her, dont knownher family, your uncle works with her. Its not a dangerous spot so proceed.

Just call/text, make light of the whole setup and situation and ask her out.

I'd say lean towards passing, although a caveat..

- Stop in and see your uncle at your leisure and on other business (don't go charging in there today), and get a vibe what this chick is like..

As long as your uncle isn't going to get weird about it as though his job depends on you dating her ("Hey, hey, hey.. This is the guy/girl I was telling you about."), gauge interest from there.

RE: Family tries to set you up
Didn't check on this beyond the first two responses. Just seeing all the ones after now. My uncle is like 68 and I'm 28- we have a good relationship, he's been around the block and I trust him. He is in the finance department and she's just some random secretary in another part of the dealership. He doesn't have anything invested, it's not like he's setting me up with his boss's daughter. He doesn't care how it turns out.

Anyway I went with John Michael Kane- I texted her, a little back and forth banter and we're meeting up for a drink this week. Thanks!
