The kid has an impeccable resume, I can assure you he does not have a 2.1 GPA and a 720 SAT and the essay is the only reason he was admitted. He also was admitted to Yale and Princeton.

I think the point is rather that making that sort of reply on a resume should've disqualified him for Stanford, not made his application stronger. I doubt an essay response of #GamerGate x 100 would've been met with the same laurels even if he had better high school results than Doogie Howser.

The point is that answer is completely farcical and anyone with a modicum of decency would have viewed that answer as an insult to the process and thrown the application in the trash.

I remember in law school, I met with a Black judge at a party who was bragging to a group of people how he passed an exam in law school with a B despite having skipped virtually every class and not buying the textbook until the final exam, because he had to take care of his baby child that semester. He even showed up to the exam late and half assed his answers entirely, he told me and a few other students, "I hardly remember what I wrote down, I was totally stressed out, I never even showed up for class, and I still got a B!" (And all of us laughed together with him as we hobnobbed in one of the most prestigious law firms in Boston).

I'm pretty sure Obama was just another diversity pick, I've read his trash he wrote in college and it's obvious he was outclassed by the other students yet got ahead for the sake of "diversity." His complete college records are still sealed.

And welcome to the very reason a not-tiny number of black college graduates hate affirmative action: because that very phenomenon smears every bastard with a lot of pigmentation to his skin that even if he did earn his stripes legitimately, he'll forever be seen as an affirmative action hire. As always, the Last Psychiatrist has an interesting spin on it: why, despite college education being almost mandatory to get an entry-level job these days, is there still identifiable racism/sexism in hiring choices?

Mainly this: your college grades give an employer absolutely no fucking idea of whether or not you're going to be any good at your job, so he's forced to fall back on other methods at trying to assess your suitability for the role ... such as the fact you have a vagina.

It's the same reason all those "alternative" and stupid quiz tests they give prospective hires are similarly missing the point: if the college degree isn't telling the employer the person can do the job, why is it even relevant? Especially for jobs where a college degree is needed to do something that a 9th grade student could do?

John Grisham, via the protagonist in The Rainmaker, makes that exact point: four years of law school is more or less wasted time, a guy spending four years in a law firm is going to learn and do a lot more productive shit with his time than he ever will in a university.

When you combine all the legacy entries, (((Tribal))) entries, Title IX's, Diversity Quota's, and Rich Chinese kids who actually gets into these Ivy League level schools on 100% merit? I have yet to meet anybody who did not get into one of these schools with a clean nose. All had either big money or some fucked up sob story to get them in.

University has become a joke, I sit down with my program head from time to time, and he even talks shit about it all.

Despite his leftism, and retarded essay(which I agree should have disqualified him from Stanford), the rest of his resume is good.

He goes to a wealthy elite private school, its likely his parents are fairly well off. By the way, he also isn't "muslim" per se. He is from Bangladesh. The state of New Jersey is filled with high achieving Indian and Asian kids, and there is usually no reason to give them any special treatment

OK so there are three possibilities:

1. He actually wrote that essay, the Stanford admissions committee read it and thought to accept this kid. Completely messed up and definitely a smirch on Stanford's reputation.


2. It's an April's Fool Day joke. He sent out his tweet on April 1.

I'd be shocked if he did write #BLM 100 times. I've met half a dozen people that attended his high school (Princeton Day School) and they're all sticklers for the rules. Not to mention his Bangladeshi parents would beat the shit out of him for joking around on his Stanford application like that.

3. The most likely scenario: Stanford admissions people didn't read the essay.

From personal experience: for graduate programs (PhDs), there are 4 things you need: GPA, GRE, recommendation letters and your statement of purpose (your essay). I've talked to multiple professors and they've all confirmed the essay is the least important part of your application because it's the easiest to bullshit. Hard to fake GPA, GRE scores or recommendation letters on the other hand. I have friends who accidentally submitted the wrong essay and still got accepted into graduate school (Imagine a letter that starts with: 'I'd like to attend Harvard' sent to Yale). The professors probably don't even read the essays unless they're deciding between two equally qualified candidates.

Stanford accepts about 2,000 kids out of 50,000. Let's assume their admissions office has 50 people - that's a thousand applications per staff member. It's probably more per person.

I've graded 40 homework sets at a time and after 20 I lose concentration and start skimming. Same happens with elite firm recruiters. A guy who worked at McKinsey told me he skims through 100s of resumes and he looks for very specific things: school, GPA, standard test scores, mark of distinction (e.g. top 5% of class, top scholarship) and one big brand name (BBN) internship. If you have those things, they stop reading your resume. You could probably write something ridiculous towards the bottom of your resume and still get an interview offer.

I bet after a few hundred applications each, the admissions staff members start to skim. They see this kid with:

* elite school name, feeder school
* killer GPA
* perfect or almost perfect SAT scores
* invited to White House Iftar dinner
* recognized by Obama as a 'Muslim-American change-maker'
* started 2 non-profit organizations
* gave TedX talk
* MTV's Top 9 Teens Changing the World
* Business Insider's Top 15 Young Prodigies

You think they're going to read the essay after this? I wouldn't. Fuck that, I'd admit the kid and move on to the other 4,000 applications I need to go through.

Doesn't mr attention whore realize that when future employers Google his name in the future they will realize what a liability he will be? Sure some may say great we want him because he pulled this stunt. But I think most intelligent people will not want the headache associated with someone who thought this was a brilliant idea. If the application answer thing is true, it's really disturbing. Especially since he probably could have written any other absolute crap and still have been admitted. The kid started a website at age 14, and has rubbed shoulders with some political heavyweights,, all before the age of 18. He ticks all of the right 'liberal/progressive' boxes.
