RE: Article criticizes lack of African-American players in MLB
Yep, pretty dumb article.
He focuses on African-"Americans" so he can ignore the fact that half the Dominican players are basically black.
He focuses on the battery and ignores the fact that a lot of young black American kids don't want to play baseball, let alone pitch or catch.
Ignores that David Price has won the Cy Young and makes $30 million.
Teams have scouts in the Dominican and PR signing up 14 year-olds. If you're good enough to play, MLB teams will find you and pay you.
The word "troubling" is also in the title, which is the 2nd most SJW-word after "problematic." (The word "problem" appears in the title, too)

RE: Article criticizes lack of African-American players in MLB
Quote:“We’re aware of the fact that the numbers are low. That’s why we have in place programs that are designed not only to increase the number of African-Americans playing the game, but also to specifically address the pitcher-catcher issue.”
So, somewhere there's a white kid that's really good at baseball, but he can't play because of affirmative action.
Got it.

RE: Article criticizes lack of African-American players in MLB
Black American kids don't like baseball, they love basketball and want to be the next Jordan.
Even some great NFL players only played football because they couldn't make the NBA.
My friend from the DR, told me when he was young the scouts would come down and feed the boys snickers to fatten them up.

El oh el.
These kinds of articles were already common when I was a kid and pre-teen in the 90s and early 2000s, e.g.:
- "There's not enough blacks in the MLB!"
- "There's not enough black pitchers in the MLB!"
- "Black MLB players are disproportionately outfielders and this is a problem!"
- "Do whites use latinos as the new baseball 'model minority' to subjugate black players?!"
- "There's not enough black quarterbacks in the NFL!"
- "There's not enough black NFL head-coaches!"
- "There's not enough black NBA head-coaches!"
This was way before I had any concept of the American PC-leftist complex or the racial spoils system zeitgeist--much less stuff like heritability and probability distributions--but the concept of averages and percentages are easy to understand even for a kid, so I wondered, "don't these kinds of articles just draw attention to the opposite point, that there are way many more blacks in the NFL and NBA than one would expect from population averages? Different people have different abilities and interests, no?"
As an adult, I realize there's a decent chance that a substantial number of those articles were what Tyler Cowen would call "Straussian"--superficially reinforcing the PC-leftist complex, but sub-textually were really calling attention to the obnoxious of the PC-leftist complex.

I'm glad the same assholes are churning out the same fake-outrage articles.
Otherwise people might quickly forget why they elected Trump.

RE: Article criticizes lack of African-American players in MLB
Ken Rosenthal is a blowhard, who has gotten worse over the years as his ego has grown.
However he is right regarding the fact that baseball recruiting has turned into pay to play. Showcase tournaments with scouts from all MLB teams are ridiculously expensive eliminating lower income athletes who may happen to be studs on their high school team.
However the recruiting circuit is not only biased on a racial level, but a geographical one as well. If you're not living in California, Texas, Georgia, Florida, or Arizona the odds of getting noticed out of high school are much tougher, since showcase tournaments flock to warm weather destinations. You'll never see a showcase tourney in Wisconsin or Minnesota.
In essence its a lesson in scarcity (not race). There aren't enough scouts to cover all 50 states and investigate every HS that happens to have a baseball field. Instead, scouts will flock to areas they know will be littered with good baseball talent. Sure there will be some duds (duds with rich parents) that are overrated and not truly draftable, but get noticed purely through association with better players.
I would love to see a team overhaul its US scouting system, and attempt to find the inefficiencies that have obviously arisen due to the cemented staleness of showcase baseball.

RE: Article criticizes lack of African-American players in MLB
Long article.
Quote:Nine such academies currently are in operation or in development in the U.S. But some players note that major-league teams operate a far greater number of facilities in Latin American countries. “Infrastructure. That’s the main thing,” Orioles center fielder Adam Jones says in the MLB Network roundtable. “MLB, all the teams, you go to the Dominican, Venezuela, those respective countries, they’re out there searching. “Their facilities in the Dominican and Venezuela are outstanding. The baseball fields in Baltimore are horrible. The money that they pour into RBI (Reviving Baseball in Inner Cities) is great. But the money they pour into Latin America is grand.”
The abundance of the foreign (other dark-skinned) players has to be hitting some raw nerves. The basic logic seems sound - with enough investment in the USA, there would be a sizeable pool of Af-Ams making their way up the ladder. The article doesn't go as far as saying the obvious - if you pull out most of the talent scouting funding currently flowing south of the border, and instead spend it in the USA, you'd end up with more Af Ams in the MLB.
Chances of that happening?
What is implied more strongly in the article is that promising black players are assumed by teams to not be as likely to last the distance and climb the ladder all the way to the pro level, compared to the guys south of the border.

RE: Article criticizes lack of African-American players in MLB
Why is it always blacks with these people? Nobody seems to care that there are just about 3 Asians and Hispanics total in the entire NFL and NBA combined, despite those two groups being more numerous than blacks. But god forbid there is a sport where blacks are merely proportionately represented to their share of the population rather than forming 70%+ of the total. I think jewish sportswriters have a very unhealthy black-man fetish.

There are very few blacks in Hockey or Tennis as well. But this is not due to racism, but more due to lack of interest of blacks in those sports - also it takes specific training from a young age - usually it involves the parents to aid them.
But for the equality sheisters any factual results are always based on racism. The same country seemingly does not "suffer" from this in the NFL or NBA - yeah right.
Clarification: blacks (West Africans and their descendants, to be more precise) may have athletic advantages on average over whites in some sports (e.g. NBA; NFL receiver, cornerback, and running back) where running/jumping and vertical/horizontal reach (blacks tend to have longer arms than whites, and whites than East Asians) are important, and whites likewise over East Asians.
To the extent that running/jumping and reach account for a lower percentage of variation in success, the "black advantage" in sports disappears, and is even reversed.
Like you suggested, see: Soccer, Hockey, Tennis, Baseball, etc.
As I've mentioned before, it's always been a bit perplexing to me that white Americans would be invested in sports leagues like the NFL and NBA. It's essentially gifting blacks status for no good reason. But maybe white Americans are more cucked, on average, than I would wish.

Very true, but whites are on average taller then blacks and shouldn't exactly be worse at basketball. The balkan countries, which are quite tall, are producing a tremendous amount of NBA talent in proportion in their size.
I also believe the lack of white Americans in the NBA is due somewhat to lack of interest, as well as discrimination at an early age. The court is a place where blacks "return" the discrimination from whites. Even white coaches do as this as well.
Also athletes are more preferred at the early age level then fundamental players, as coaches often think, "If I teach this guy to play, he'll be really good." That's why even in the NBA we have so many first round busts. NBA GM's will take "potential" over a sure thing many times.
I don't think they're cucked at all. People in general enjoy watching things they can't do themselves. White Americans started watching these sports well before blacks were even integrated into professional leagues.
On a final note, black people are not longer playing basketball in inner city in the "Northern" states. I see just as many skateboards in the ghetto as basketballs. You're already seeing many of black players are coming from the South or the West of America now.

RE: Article criticizes lack of African-American players in MLB
I played college baseball. I was the only black guy on my team for a couple of years. I didn't read the article but I think the reason for the article is that baseball was such a large part of the black community (Negro League, Jackie Robinson). But now its the 3rd in popularity now. I think a couple of reasons for its decline in America (not just black community) is that its a father/son sport (blk community = single moms) and its fuckin hard sport to play (requires a ton of time to get good/hitting a baseball is tough). I heard there's an article about the 100 most popular athletes today -- only 2 baseball players made the list. And one of them is retired -- Jeter. Every year around Jackie Robinson day this subject comes up.
