Maine 6th grader makes national headlines for standing up to school dress code

Molly Neuner, 11, of Portland, Maine, is making national headlines after she stood up to school officials enforcing a dress code she thinks is "unfair and sexist."

The dress code at King Middle School prohibits students from wearing "short or tight-fitting skits or shorts, (no shorter than finger-tip length) thin strapped, revealing tops."

Neuner said sixth graders recently had a meeting with teachers, and when the topic of the dress code came up, two teachers told them it was because their clothing can be a "distraction" to boys.

Neuner said the next week at school, a teacher measured the width of her tank top straps and the length of her friend’s shorts in front of the class.

"It just made us feel uncomfortable," she said.

When she told her mother about it, Christina Neuner showed Molly the hashtag “I am not a distraction” on Instagram. It inspired Molly’s next outfit for school.

"The minute I saw that, I knew that’s what I wanted to do," she said.

Neuner wore a spaghetti-strap style tank top to school, and instead of sleeves, wrote the words "I am not a distraction" on her arm in marker. When her female classmates saw her, they joined in.

Their movement caught the attention of blogs and national magazines, and has been shared by the ACLU and Huffington Post, among other major outlets.

It has prompted school officials to review the dress code policy, and ask for student input at the end of the school year to make possible changes.

Superintendent Xavier Botana said they are carefully reviewing policies and considering "smart adjustments" to the dress code.

Neuner said she would like to see those changes sooner – but is glad school officials were receptive.

She has received comments from students and parents across the country, and the world – some telling her she’s not distracting, but inspiring.

"It just felt so empowering to know that other girls have looked up to me, and that they are going through this," she said. "Now they have another reason to stand up for themselves."

Ok, school has a dress code policy for elementary school aged kids to prevent them from dressing like sluts and dirtbags. Mom dresses girl like a Jr. Slut, girl gets embarrassed when called out in front of class and outfit is measured; tells mom. Mom puts on the SJW hat and provides the first lesson in Western female entitlement indoctrination to the unsuspecting child.

We're supposed to believe the 11 year old "felt inspired" when it was really the (likely single, probably tatted and thousand cock stare) mom who put those words into her daughter's mouth.

The school administration is doing cheetah flips to avoid more negative exposure from the reasonable minds at the ACLU and HuffPo, so much that they're even going to ask for student input on changes to the dress codes.

So, what started as mild embarrassment for a sixth grader is converted into a SJW cause du jour. In response, 11 year olds will have decision making power on a matter formerly decided by adults - grown people in the best position to know why it's inappropriate to encourage slutty dressing by little girls.

Why the subtle sexualization of 11 year old girls in the article?

Those dress codes are intended to prevent the sexualization of children.

Where is the argument that spagetti straps are more practical and comfortable? I remember that argument was tossed around for our dress codes back in the day but it didn't hold any water for Canada where it is forzen thurdra most of the year and the hot summer months we are not even in class.

Her argument is fucked up as you should not encourage that type of exposure for young girls any how. This is how you know she isn't thinkign for her self. I don't think a 11-year old girl truly udnerstands all that that yet, she does not understand the power of her body, or the dynamics of male and female interactions. So her speaking in that way, it is all forced. We need more details about her mother, who is, the real star of the show here.

They understand acting in a provocative way, though. There used to be a girl in elementary school who would wait till we were the only two left in the classroom on the way out to recess, and then yell "Hey Jean," and pull down her pants. I would flip out and yell for the teacher, and she would pull her pants back up just in time, and not get in trouble because there was no evidence other than her giggly expression at having provoked a reaction.

Kids love attention, and learn at a young age that flouting the nudity taboo is one way to get it. Now apparently kids are learning that they can get even more attention through this SJW stuff.

Would it have been so hard for the school to say that students are expected to dress modestly because they are there to learn, and they can dress how they want on their own time?

Is it so out of the question to have such humble and reasonable standards?

This tactic seems to be getting much more common among SJWs - activist parents delivering their message through the mouths of their children. We're supposed to marvel about the "wisdom" these children display as if we didn't notice the coincidence that these kids have attention-whoring activists for parents and just happen to be delivering the same message their parents (unsuccessfully) try to.

The "smart adjustments" I'd institute were I Mr. Botana, just out of spite, would be boys and girls alike wear full-length dark slacks and plain long-sleeved collared shirts/blouses in muted colors. Same code for both sexes, no ambiguity on the standard.

Of course grown-children like the mom in the OP would still find some opening to rules-lawyer around the dress code and raise a stink to get attention and push people around - so you ratchet the code down until the kids are all wearing grey pajamas like Great Leap Forward-era Chinese peasants.

Which is just an absurd illustration of the right way to handle this kind of thing - the SJW troublemakers protest the standards because they want no standards; instead, give them new and improved standards that are actually more restrictive than before, yet specifically address their gripes.

They have those female teachers these days who come teaching in very low neckline tops that you can see her breasts and tits when she leans over, plus they wear those spandex pants that you can literally see the color of their thong panties, so it isn't surprising that these 11-year-olds want to dress like a whore while demanding that people treat those poorly dressed sloots with respect.

Here in the State of Florida, ya know how many boys get sent home by a female teacher who is dressed like a prostitute, because the boy wore baggy pants or gangsta bandana?

These teacher unions in Florida are not as terrible as in Canada in terms of corruption, but calling out a female teacher as a prostitute requires complaints from more than one parent, but in Canada those prostitute dressed teachers are protected by the teacher unions that they track down your email address using spy software which does a social enginerring of your email address to locate your IP address, social media profiles and contact list.

These females want to dress like prostitutes in school, but they demand respect as if they are the Virgin Mary (excepting the female pedo teacher you hear in the news every month), that is the difference.

Jocelyn Elders, Clinton's Surgeon General, lasted about a year until she was fired for suggesting exactly that in 1994. Her advocacy seems quite tame by comparison nowadays.
