Fidget Spinners
I'm sure a lot of you would've heard about this craze online already.

You simply hold it between your thumb and index finger and spin. It's pretty satisfying and quite a stress/boredom reliever.

I get impulsive and bored really easily so I figured I had to get one. So on my way to work out I stopped by at the mall and found a store which sold it, it was some cheap plasticy thing at $5 but it was really satisfying to spin and I felt pretty happy feeling the thing go.

Just wondering if anyone else on RVF has one of these.

Wikipedia: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fidget_spinner

Quote:A fidget spinner is a type of stress-relieving toy. A basic fidget spinner consists of a bearing in the center of a design made from any of a variety of materials including brass, stainless steel, titanium, copper and plastic. The toy has been advertised as helping people who have trouble focusing or fidgeting (such as those with ADHD, autism, or anxiety) by acting as a release mechanism for nervous energy or stress. Experts were divided on this claim, with some supporting it while others refuted its scientific basis and argued the toy may actually be more distracting.

Although they were invented in the 1990s, fidget spinners became a popular toy in 2017. Often marketed with health benefits, the toy began being used by school children, resulting in some schools banning the spinners, arguing that the toy became a distraction in classrooms. Other schools are allowing the toy to be used discreetly by children in order to help them concentrate.

They're deeply satisfying for some reason. Sort of like pressing buttons. There's something soothing about the anarchy of twisting knobs, pushing levers, and click buttons that brings out the inner child.

Yeah, my oldest boy wants one but we're not going into town until later in the month so he actually made one out of cardboard and coins.

Local stores are having a hard time keeping up with demand. I've heard tell that they were originally designed to reduce stress in people with autism.

RE: Fidget Spinners
Street peddlers are now selling these on every corner in NYC.

As with "hover" boards, I give it about three months before sales tank and the fad passes. These will phase out sooner than hover boards given they only cost a few bucks to buy.

The cubes seem the coolest to me, I haven't bought one yet but you can get them from China for under a dollar a piece. I actually thought about reselling them but I think the market is already saturated.

RE: Fidget Spinners
Figured I'd drop a few interesting tidbits about these things. So the media has been going crazy doing stories about how the poor women who invented them is never going to make a penny off them b/c her patent expired. If you look at her invention it resembles nothing like what we know as a fidget spinner. She basically had a little mini plastic frisbee you manually spun on your finger, no ball bearings or anything. Anyhow the media ran with the story about how its so sad a small time entrepreneur got screwed over by teh big toy companies blah blah blah.

I know we have a lot of entrepreneurs on here so just wanted to throw this out there as well. UPS will not ship these thigns from China because of a patent dispute. If that gains any traction I imagine eBay and Amazon will drop these things within a day of that if it turns out there really is a patent holder so just be aware of that if anyone is thinking about importing them.

I think this is a short lived fad that will die out within the next month or two. That said I have a few hundred in my possession and am selling them like crazy while it lasts.

RE: Fidget Spinners
I actually monetize these at our shop, we sell probably a good 6-10 a day and just got ones with LED's.

Yeah lifting helps decompress (ironic).

But honestly for kids who have add or need stress relief this is a fuck lot better than taking some bullshit pills.

I can remember when fingering a spinner meant something else entirely.

We have been primed for these by all those "oddly satisfying" and "weirdly relaxing" videos.

You could buy one of these, or you could learn a skill:

I have one. These are cool.

The supposed medical benefits are BS, but that doesn't take away from the coolness.

Props to those who are making money off this craze. I suspect the fad will die down once the school year ends and all the kids get distracted by summer things.
