I reckoned this'd be a fun way to share each other's cultures, through the old manly tradition of manly yarns to spook each other around the campfire.

I'll start.

As many of you know, I'm from the Carolinas. This particular tale come from North Carolina, where it's hard to farm on a large scale. Well, a while back, there was a famine. There was an old hermit, who only went into town on occasion to trade for moonshine, but mostly kept to himself, hunting for his food. Well, the famine hit him too.

He was sitting in front of his fire one night, his three hunting dogs with him, wondering how he was gonna feed them and himself, when his dogs suddenly jumped up, and started barking. He spotted what they saw, a pinkish rat sort of critter with a long tail. He grabbed his hatchet and tossed it at the beast, but only managed to sever the tail before it disappeared between the floorboards of his cabin. He chopped up the tail, feeding it to his dogs, and keeping a bit to make a stew for himself. He was pleased; he and his dogs wouldn't starve for a little while.

That night, he heard a scratching at his door, and a haunting voice moaning, "Taily-bone... I want my Taily-bone..." The hermit grabbed his gun, whistled for his dogs, and chased the beast into the woods. When he lost its trail, he whistled for his dogs, and only two came back. He reckoned the third had killed the critter and was greedily hogging it all down.

He went back to bed, and heard yet again the scratching and the eerie voice, "Taily-bone... I want my taily-bone..." This time, he heard it at the foot of his bed. He grabbed his gun, whistled for his dogs, and chased the beast again, firing his rifle at it as his dogs snapped at its heels. When he lost the trail, he whistled for his dogs, and only one came back. Now he was unsettled, he let the dog in to sleep in his room, and kept his gun next to him.

A third time, he heard the scratching, right next to his head on his nightstand. He saw the horrible beast, heard it wail, "Taily-bone! I want my Taily-bone!" His dog leapt up, and he immediately fired on the critter, which ran off out the door. He tracked it with his dog, and when he lost the trail, he whistled for his dog, who did not return.

He went back to bed, thoroughly afraid, keeping his gun in bed with him as close as a lover. He woke in the gray hours of the morning, the beast on his chest, screaming in his face, "I WANT MY TAILY-BONE!"

Well, eventually the famine passed, folks went up to check on the hermit. All that was left of his cabin was the chimney, and folks claim if you go up there, you can hear an eerie voice moaning, "I got my taily-bone..."

Real talk, I don't fuck with ghosts or spirits. Leave them alone and you will be left alone.

Every now and then though, some black magic shit happens because you or someone around you pissed off the wrong person.

I know of numerous tales from friends and my mother but I have a true story for you, from September 2015 that I experienced and witnessed.

I always was a skeptic until this. The fact that it happened on a weekly basis gave it a buildup to what was the scariest moment of my life. I have had a knife around my throat before, I have been threatened with a gun but this, man, this was surreal.

At the start of August 2015, at my girlfriend's tiny studio apartment, we were watching Fargo and I went to turn the volume up. Remote control was missing. Fucking weird.

Fast forward a week. Her neighbour and a mutual friend, went to on a 5 week trip to Zanzibar and left her car keys with us, to start the car every now and then.

Cool. I saw my girlfriend hang the keys on the key holder (hook thing) in the kitchen. We head to my place for a night. Come back to hers the next day. Keys are missing (incident 1). We search high and low. I am writing this on the couch looking at the kitchen, the keys are still not here.

She starts freaking out.

Where could they be?

I calm her down, another 4-5 days or so pass.

We come to her place and in her room, a bracelet of hers lies in pieces on the floor. I pick it up and it's made of nylon (like a fishing line) with beads attached to it. All the beads spread across the floor. I surmised that only a human could have had the force to pull something apart.

I became really suspicious. Some one is fucking with her but the bracelet remain inexplicable.

Unsure of what is going on, I decided to tie some string and set a 'trap' outside the front door so if anyone entered, the string would be set off and I would know if it was physically breached.

I brought her over to my place and let her stay for 4 nights.

Lo and behold, 4 days later, my MacGyver-esque farce of a trap was intact. Alright that's a positive sign. Open the door and turn to the open plan kitchen on the right.

A plate is on the floor, broken.

This was one of the moments in my life where I felt pure confusion and questioned my sanity and felt very uncomfortable. I am a supremely rational guy. I explain what I can and what I cannot, I reason with.

I am struggling.

Funnily enough, her mother got a puppy and we were dog sitting, a week or so later. Take the dog to the apartment, after he shat on the carpet in my one. Dog is chilled and energetic and then walks to the one couch and starts yapping away. Then stops. Then starts looking around the room and is quiet.

To say his reaction was unsettling would be an understatement.

She decides in a fit of fear and frustration to sell the two single seater couches. They were purchased second hand and she was convinced it had something to do with that.

Sure, sell 'em I tell her.

Let's do this properly though.

So, here in South Africa you have 'sangomas' who are kinda like witch doctors, a version of a shaman.

They do strange and esoteric rituals and people joke about them but you can always find one if you look hard enough.

Me being the dubious white guy that I am, decided to go to the local taxi ranks, to this shop that sold miscellaneous 'herbs' and shit like that for rituals.

Turned out to be a 'well known' fact that we had to do a 'cleansing' of the flat with sage.

Cool. I got this.

We light a candle and place it on the coffee table in our living room.

We start by spreading salt around the perimeter of the apartment. Start saying 'any evil spirits or bad forces, please leave this space'.

Do the same with a bell.

Do the same clapping our hands.

I am feeling a bit idiotic, clapping my hands, talking to something unknown, looking like a fool and somewhat amused yet bemused by this whole debacle. I am a grown ass man, talking to my walls and throwing spices around. Fucks sake, is this what it's like to be in a relationship?

Alright, sage, or impepho as it's known in Zulu, it's your time to shine.

Place it in a casserole bowl as that's all we had and start burning this shit. Doing the perimeter dance.

Done.

Nothing changes.

20 minutes pass.

Now guys, there is a mirror on the wall which had a small wire craft that spelled our 'Smile'. The craft was placed on the mirror, nailed to the wall.

You could have been there and done a count down of 3, 2, 1 and your timing wouldn't have been as perfect as what followed.

'Babe, I am gonna just blow this candle out so I can move the TV back in to place'

'Sure, just remember to say what we have been saying'

Any evil spirits, any malicious or negative forces, please leave us alone

BOOM, the wire craft falls off the mirror as soon as I blow the candle out. No lag, not a split second off, literally as soon as I blew out the candle.

What did I do?

I fucking froze. I felt a cold shiver on my back. My arsehole puckered and felt the full glare of my girlfriend fall on me, looking at my face for feedback.

You're a man and you need to handle this. is what my brain is telling my body but my brain is struggling to comprehend what the fuck just happened.

The build up to this obviously didn't help.

A few days pass, we find the fucking remote. It was between the couch, the same couch I scrutinized for 3 hours looking for it.

2 weeks later, she checks her brother's girlfriends facebook page. They had an argument and this girl is self-proclaimed, into 'witchcraft'.

She wrote a status which said 'I see that smile you have and I will get rid of it'.

Right. My girlfriend stayed at my place for a few weeks while I went on a company trip overseas.

The smile wire craft now resides on a dream catcher and the sage is in the top cupboard.

I am glad to report that there have been no further incidents but there is one thing I learned from those 5-6 weeks; you can be the most alpha fucking dog in the world, think you are untouchable but some shit will come along and make your arsehole pucker so tight you will question your existence and your perception of yourself.

It's also the most stressful thing I have dealt with simply because it's unknown.

edit: we also have a very strong suspicion of who the ghost was; her step brothers mother who had committed suicide. Then again, who knows.

I posted this in the "meaning of dreams" thread but it fits here too.

The wife and I were living in a place that always felt a bit off. One night I'm having this God-awful nightmare where this desiccated corpse crawls into the room on the ceiling through the doorway, looks at me, opens its jaw full of sharp teeth and hisses at me.

Bang, I'm awake and upright. Wife is up too, but I just figure she woke up because of me (I can get pretty bad night terrors). Normally she asks me what's wrong but she didn't, which I thought was odd. So I ask her "are you ok?"

"I just had the most fucked up nightmare", she tells me. I ask her what it was about.

"This horrible dead thing crawled into the room on the ceiling. What was your nightmare about?"

When I told her, it didn't go down well. No more sleep for us that night. We didn't renew the lease on that place either.

In any case I think OP was looking for "folk tales" more than first hand experiences.

@Noir
Its not about the ghosts. Heard of out of body experiences? Subtle, non phyiscal body which you control during this experience is the same body fully controlled immediately after the death of your physical body. Its called sometimes pranic body, etheric body or etheric double. This body moves in the layer that is imposed practically on physical reality. That is why this body can touch things from the physical reality.
In UK in the 19th century they called this churchyard ghost, because people sometimes saw the deceased looking at its own funeral from the behind or lurking in the shadows. Why I said its not a ghost? Because this type of body is the one that disintegrates fastest. It has a life span of maybe 2 weeks, after which human awareness passes to another more subtler body and more subtle reality than this. That means if this step brothers mom was longer than the 2 weeks dead at that time, it wasn't her.
Anyway, ghosts are not easily explainable phenomena and totally unlike Hollywood represents them. In most cases they are something akin to thought forms and a form of mass hallucinations, which of course doesn't make them less real.

@Leonard
Its not unlike at all for spouses, siblings and best friends to have shared dreams. Dreams are glimpses of subtler reality and our brain is the tool which access them.
Heard of Carlos Castaneda? He made popular in the West ancient practice of Sorceric Dreaming, a "Inception like" magic tradition which focuses on exploration of lucid dreams, which they believe are actually exploration of another realities. Inception is thus not fully a science fiction movie.
Quote
Man, these are some good ones so far. Stories can be either firsthand or folktales, just trying to get a feel for the cultures we all live in. I didn't know white folks could deal with shamans in South Africa, that's interesting they gave you the ritual and sold you the sage.

Some people on Lucid dream forums even spend their waking time planning and creating a world in which they then visit every night in their lucid dreams.
It's a really interesting phenomena and definitely worth delving into if you have the time and are willing to experience terrifying sleep paralyses in the practice.

When it comes to ghosts, I fail to believe every single culture has had their own descriptions of similar entities because of merely drugs, coincidence or whatever.
The thing is we don't know fuckall about our reality.

If you want to confuse an atheist, ask him/her to play ouija with you in a dark place.
Most often you get "I don't want to get involved in those things".
Gee, I thought you didn't believe in supernatural?

That is a very interesting idea, thank you for sharing it. In my opinion dream diary and an interval "dream signs" app on phone is enough to induce more frequently lucid dream.

True story. It is obvious when people dwell into comparative mythology that they will stumble upon same stories, same entities but with different names. Truly ignorant ones can say that people made up same stories throughout the world without them even having contact with each other.

One of the first rental apartments I bought has a ghost. A bad ghost.

The very first guy I rented it to had schizophrenia. The building managers complained to me because he was out in front or on the lanai screaming about how he worked for Satan and wanted to kill the Holy Spirit. I went down and tried to talk to him about this problem. Its a difficult conversation to have, trying to talk an employee of Satan out of killing the holy spirit, and keeping noise levels down. But he had a disability payee who was right on time with the rent.

One day, he wrote in the elevator with lipstick (I don't know why he had lipstick) that "The guy in 12c is hanging himself today" so eventually the manager called me and I called the payee and the cops. Yes, the guy hung himself. I went down later, and found the suicide note/last will he left. I hate to speak I'll of the dead, but I thought the note was hilarious it said "I have been unable to kill the holy spirit, so I have failed. Please feed my body to the birds, and leave all my assets to the make a wish foundation. Thank you." Satan's employee still supported the make a wish foundation.

I painted the place, got new carpets, cleaned it really well, new appliances. I rented maybe seven days later. First people said it stunk. I took apart the bathroom fan and found a bag of raw chicken. Then they would hear rattles. Then things started breaking. The smoke alarm was always going off. They moved.

Next people called all the time because the cable kept going out. I would call the manager he said the cable was fine. They had all kinds of other problems. They moved.

In between people, I slept there a few nights. It was scary. Strange breezes were always hitting me, and there were just all these strange noises.

Well, I rented it again. These people had some plumbing problems. I went just to see what they were talking about. I determined a plumber was needed. So when I'm leaving the lady says "hey let me ask you something" and takes me into the bedroom clost, which is a small walkin.

Well on the back of the sliding doors, the crazy dude, or his ghost, had glued all kinds of pictures of himself. It made no sense that I or the workers would not have found those pictures when he died. It was something.

Everyone in there since always has some type of problem. Now if that's not scary, I don't know what is.

Aloha!

I had my Thai girl over a couple of weeks ago to do a tarot reading. She's been doing it for a while and actually doesn't do it for profit. All she asks is that a small donation is given to charity, any charity.

She brought over 3 different packs of cards. Decides to use the "darker" pack, which contain quite gothic looking imagery.

We set up on my bed and she proceeds to spread the cards out after doing her little prair. She then asks me to choose 10 random cards, which I do.

She starts turning them over. There's a strained look on face as she attempts to glean the deeper meaning that the cards would have to me. Her expression then turns to frustration. "These cards aren't for you" she explains.

She then decides to reshuffle and try again. Same result, cards aren't for me. She mentions to me that she's feeling dizzy/drained and that we should stop and try some other time. A few minutes later she decides to give it one last try. I suggest "maybe a different pack?" No, that's not the issue apparently.

Sure enough, third attempt was not working either.

She later explained what was going on. The "spirits" were preventing her from doing the reading. Of particular note was a card that kept appearing. The picture was of a man peering upon a sleeping person from a doorway, the door ajar. The spirits were watching apparently. I had some pretty broken sleep that night.

Fast forward to the following week and we do the reading at her place. The mood is a lot lighter and sure enough, the cards are for me this time. That same card does appear though. The combination of the other cards prompts her to ask if I have any dead children, any miscarriages. I mention that a girl I was seeing last year purported to have had one.

She explained that the baby, however small and despite not growing to be either a girl/boy was in my apartment. It wants to be close to me, observe me, get to know me. It watches me when I'm sleeping apparently. She then advised that this won't go on for too much longer, that I just have to be patient and show kindness toward it. I feel somewhat relieved.

Now, I take all this sort of stuff with a grain of salt, but there was a real conviction in the way it was presented to me, making me think that there is more than our physical reality.

Isn't this why witchcraft and actual magick is banned in the bible as an "abomination''?
Quote:Deuteronomy 18:9–12
9 “When you come into the land that the Lord your God is giving you,you shall not learn to follow the abominable practices of those nations. 10 There shall not be found among you anyone who burns his son or his daughter as an offering,5 anyone who practices divination or tells fortunes or interprets omens, or a sorcerer 11 or a charmer or a medium or a necromancer or cone who inquires of the dead, 12 for whoever does these things is an abomination to the Lord. And because of these abominations the Lord your God is driving them out before you.

The penalty is which is death:
Quote:Exodus 22:18
You shall not permit a sorceress to live.

Quote:Leviticus 20:27
27 “A man or a woman who is a medium or a necromancer shall surely be put to death. They shall be stoned with stones;their blood shall be upon them.”

No humans has right to mess with spiritual forces beyond his/her understanding.

For in doing so they defile not only the location as your story indicates but their own souls and condemn their souls to hell unless they repent. And open doors that will be impossible to shut except by the power of God. Ensuing that such a location is inhabited by unclean spirits.

The only supernatural powers that are acceptable are those that come from God under his direction. For those who are saved.

For example in persons like Moses and Elijah and used only for specific tasks on special occasions.

Better that we stick with technology and with healthy religion.

I bet someone did some kind of occult ritual or some kind of sorcery in that place if you did research into it.

This is a possibility, even though I wouldn't put finger on it and say its 100% true. Both physical (meat and bone) and subtle bodies decay after their death (everything dies), but these subtle bodies can sometimes become a shell. This is a existence where all intelligence and humanity left them and moved on, but the body didn't fully disintegrate (like its normal to do). Here we are presented with couple of cases.
In first case, it can linger around and maybe, just maybe become what Hollywood says its a ghost.
In second case, if a sufficiently experienced person were to re-vitalise it, it will become his or hers personal property and kind of an slave, to do his/hers bidding. This being can become a "demon" of sorts and sometimes a truly menacing enemy. Of course it depend of its controller.
In third case, even this decaying body that lingers too long will one day disappear completely.

What I want to say that we can immediately dismiss the second case, as you have not ever seen a disturbances. It is a possibility that is a first or third case. In any of it, there will be no problems.

I should have a whole lot of stories for this thread but I don't. They're gone. Forgotten. Erased. I know what real absolute terror feels like. I know I saw (or imagined) things that caused it, but I have no idea now what they were.
My mind has just hamstered them away like a girl forgets all the things she loved about you.
I remember the terror, but that's all.
I know it was one end of the house in particular, where my bedroom was. A bunch of shit I can't remember happened and eventually I wouldn't sleep in there. This was in my teens, not when I was little.
Years later I met a guy who had lived in the same house before me. "There's something about that house" He said without any prompting. "Especially that end room"
I still live here, and I dismiss it all because I have no exact memory of anything unusual. But I know fear like I don't think most people have ever known.
It's like there's an area, a radius that includes that end of the house that is just "bad".
Say I remember at night that my washing is still on the line and I need that shirt first thing in the morning, so I head down with a torch throw my clothes over my arm. All is well until I turn and start to head back to the house because even though I'm walking along casually whistling an upbeat tune, my neck is a sea of follicular erections, my heart is doing an impersonation of the outside of a nightclub, and every instinct is screaming "RUN!! RUN!! FUCKING RUN AWAY!!!!!" until I'm back inside to the calming light and sound and distractions. I have no idea why, and I have a feeling I don't want to.

I have a interesting domestic story, its not a ghost story but deals with vampires.

Jure Grando was supposed Croat vampire and first person in the historical records to be described as a vampire. People in Croatia refer to vampires as Strigoi or Štrigun, we don't usually use term vampire. Serbs like to use that term.
16 years after his death, Jure arised from the grave and terrorised his village. He would go around the village and knock on specific doors. On whatever house he knocked, somebody would day from that house in the next few days. Jure also appeared to his widow and supposedly raped her (sometimes rape is not mentioned about him).

Villagers decided to put stop to his terror and opened his grave. His corpse was fresh looking after 16 years and smiling. They wanted to use hawthorn* stick to pierce his heart but they couldn't penetrate his chest. They returned day later and also failed, so one of the villagers took the kosir and cut of his head.
Thus was the end of the Jure's terror.

I had some pretty broken sleep that night

Holy shit, you know, my girlfriend did a tarot reading a few weeks prior.

I wonder if that also brought it on. Damn, you just gave me goosebumps.

As for sangomas, I didn't trek into the bush but went to the urban cousin's of the hardcore ones and got the stuff to perform the ritual.

My suspicions on who it was remain there but this is me working with limited information.

Regarding dreams, I do lucid dream and I remember everything vividly. I can control them and they continue usually or there are timelines which exist.

I have my daily conscious life but I have a dream subconscious life too. I smoked weed to calm it down because the dreams were actually so intense to the point where it felt like I wasn't ever really sleeping, just switching from one life to another.

It also fucks with you as you start to conflate the way you view people based off the dream scenarios too.

That being said, I do believe that you can train yourself, not to be psychic but to be more aware and develop a sense for certain things.

My friends pointed this out, I have a premonition for when bad things happen. The most recent was when I got a really straining feeling in my body and had to sit down. I told my girlfriend I feel like something bad is about to happen. Two minutes later I received a phone call that my grandparents place was broken in to.

I really don't know how to categorize this but I do know that chicks dig it, for what it's worth.

On a cultural note, here is an article about the head of the South African Occult Division in the Police Force.

Even though it's on Vice, it's a scintillating read and a perspective that's not very well known. These are the stories our parents and grandparents would tell us when we were kids.

There is a current ongoing story about a Satanic group in the Western Cape that recruits people and kill prostitutes and other 'undesirables' to for human sacrifices and stuff. As recently as last month, they were trying to inflitrate gangs (drugs/weapons etc.) around Somerset West and they ordered a few hits on members including the numbers gang (prison gang).

I digress (it's more occult instead of ghosts) but it's an interesting read nonetheless. It's been disbanded but I wonder if such departments exist elsewhere.

Buddy of mine grew up Episcopalian. He was in his priest's study and saw the book of rites and flipped through it. The priest gave him a wry smile and said, "Looking for the Rite of Exoricism?" My friend sheepishly nodded and replied, "All it says is 'Contact your local exorcist.'" The priest nodded in return and answered, "And there's good reason for that." My friend put the book away and never asked about it again.

Never had dealings with Abrahamic forces personally, though I've heard my Jewish and Evangelical friends have had to grab friends who started acting erratically and restrain them while praying for hours on end until they calmed down.

That same Episcopalian friend also has a second-hand story about possession in which the possessed spoke perfect Ecclesiastical Latin without ever having studied it, I'll relay it here if I can get him to retell it to me.

Edit: Keep the stories coming guys. The vampire one was interesting. I speculate the farm tool as a weapon against vampires came from communist influence of Yugoslavia, but I am not a Croat so I will not claim it as truth. There's a surprising number of members who have experience with hauntings as well, I never thought this would be the case. Maybe guys with game are attractive to ghosts as well as girls? Laugh

Anybody gets the reference? Big Grin

YoungBlade, just saying, its all same thing, different name. Don't fall into thinking that Christian exorcism or them talking about the "demons" or possessions is anything different or better than the cultures from rest of the world. I see countless times how people do that. Its all Hollywood's fault. Just saying, not accusing you of ignorance.

What works is willpower, coupled with words. Powerful combination. Same thing happens in Christian Masses. We are familiar with our priests and how they invoke Jesus, Holy Spirit and what not, then they talk about the God and threat the demon.
But what about those who are not Christians? Are we to assume because they don't talk about those things, their techniques will not work?

When we talk about the ghosts and haunted places, just remember the church. When you enter the church you should feel special vibe that is different than the outside of the church. Its nothing to do with God, its simply imprint of energy or rather subtler bodies of people who attend Masses. Same thing can surely be felt around Kaaba in Mecca.
Now here we must see correlation with ghost phenomena. In a haunted place is probably a imprint of a specific individual or persons. Imprint varies in strength over how "weird" that person was.
Most haunted places are those where people haven't even stepped into. Huge, secluded wild lands.

P.S. I have been told by trustworthy person that in the middle of old town Zagreb there is a very powerful benevolent entity. If someone would to meditate in that place, it would be a huge bliss for that person. No wonder that this place has been equated with holiness.

Sterling, since you're a weaponcrafter, do you ever use benevolent forces or energies in your work? I've heard writing the tune tyr (tiwaz) thrice on a weapon grants it more effectiveness.

Frankly I don't know if there is anything in stories regarding occult + weapons. I mean I don't know if that is purely made up or there is something in these stories. Also, I don't know what you mean by effectiveness. There are interesting stories from the East regarding forging the swords (I am not forging) and imprinting its own Will into the weapon. Such are stories about Muramasa swords for example.
Btw, I mentioned hawthorn being used to kill vampires. Bow that will be featured in my datasheet is made from hawthorn. So we could say its an anti-vampire bow. Big Grin

Awesome, may you slay any vampire that crosses your path!

Alright I've got one. True story.

So when I was maybe 16, I spent the night by myself over at my grandparents' house. They were on vacation, but their house was within walking distance from my parents' house, and they didn't mind me staying over. I was wanting to get a break from my family (being a teenager who wanted his space) and also got to stay up late watching cable (which my family, being kinda broke, didn't have).

I had done this several times before over the last year or two, and was looking forward to having a nice break from my parents/siblings, and watching some cool shows I usually didn't get to watch.

After I got inside, I would always lock the doors. There were also metal security doors on every external doorway, and those were locked too. All windows, both upstairs and downstairs, are locked. There was even a metal security door at the top of the stairs, dividing the house. My grandparents had locked it before leaving. So I'm inside, house is totally locked, I'm watching TV and eating snacks on a big comfy couch, having a nice time.

Sometime after midnight, I decide to call it a night. I turn off the TV, get my pillows how I want them, and lay down on the couch. I pull up some covers and close my eyes. It's always taken me a while to fall asleep, so I just try to be relaxed and restful while waiting for that to happen.

I'm relaxed but still awake about 20 minutes later, when I hear a huge THUD from upstairs. It sounded like someone had dropped a 1,500 page hardcover dictionary straight onto the upstairs floor. It was so loud I knew I wasn't imagining it. I instantly sat straight up. It was so bizarre and unsettling, for a split second I actually hoped it was a burglar, but then I remembered that every single way in or out of the house was locked. There was even the security door at the top of the stairs, and my grandparents took the only copy of the key. So nobody could even have gone from downstairs to upstairs.

I stay up a while longer just watching more TV, convinced that I won't get any sleep that night. A couple hours later I actually do manage to fall asleep, and in the morning I get my things and march right out of there. Even if I could have gone upstairs to see what happened, I probably wouldn't have wanted to.

My grandma, for as long as I could remember, had been into a bunch of weird occult stuff - books, crystals, etc. Nothing like this had happened before, though. I would still go visit my grandparents, but that was the last time I ever spent the night over there.

Here's a classic from my hometown, which I've heard from other American kids, everyone swears they know the girl in the story, though they can never give you her name Laugh

Here goes:

A girl was babysitting for a couple who were spending the night out, standard situation, they tell her to call them when the kids are in bed.

She does so, and is getting ready to settle down, but before she hangs up, she says, "Hey, can I put a blanket or something over this clown statue in the living room? It's kinda freaking me out.

A few seconds of dead silence, then the mother on the phone says, "Get the kids and get out, then call the cops. We don't have a clown statue."

Apparently a homeless man had been living in their attic, dressed as a clown, stealing their food to survive.

Nothing really supernatural about it, just spooky.
