HuffPo announces layoffs - does this mean we're winning?
This can't be terrible news, even if HuffPo never goes away.
Quote:News outlet HuffPost — previously known as the Huffington Post — laid off 39 staffers on Wednesday, a move that follows parent company AOL's acquisition by telecom giant Verizon.
The layoffs come as new editor-in-chief Lydia Polgreen is "assembling a newsroom leadership team," according to a HuffPost article reporting on the layoffs. Arianna Huffington, who founded the site in 2005 as the Huffington Post, left the outlet in August.
The 39 employees were represented by the Writers' Guild of America, which released a statement that was tweeted by HuffPost's media reporter. It states that fired employees will receive a severance package including benefits that will last for two months plus one week for each year the employee has been with the company.
The layoffs include David Wood, a military reporter who won HuffPost its first Pulitzer Prize in 2012.
The layoffs also included several reporters in HuffPost's Washington, D.C., bureau. HuffPost senior politics editor Sam Stein described the layoffs on Twitter as "a very difficult day."
HuffPost is "also a business, with all that entails," Stein wrote.
Last week, it was reported that Verizon would cut 2,000 jobs across AOL and Yahoo, which are being combined into a new company called Oath. TechCrunch reported that the merger would result in about 15 percent of employees at the two companies being laid off. About 14,000 employees work at AOL and Yahoo.

Would be ironic if it upped their diversity quota as a result.

Its Wastebook that likes to ban me every 5 minutes. Last time it was for reposting a friend's post. And all he'd done was said he's a Christian and gave some British govt and mainstream scientific research on queers.
Hopefully Wastebook will follow Guffpost in a long awaited death. Scummy websites the pair of em.

RE: HuffPo announces layoffs - does this mean we're winning?
They laid off people because Verizon said so. Verizon, who acquired HuffPo parent AOL a while back, closed its merger with Yahoo! the other day. They are combining the two businesses (though the brands will remain), and cutting costs. They cut a chunk out of Yahoo! the other day, including Yahoo sports. That's what happened.
What's really interesting is what will happen next. Verizon is a pretty no-nonsense, conservative business (though it does sacrifice a few roles to the Gods of Diversitopia, i.e., fills some executive roles with people whose main criteria is that they are brown and/or do not own a penis). But for the most most, they are no-nonsense. AOL and Yahoo! are full of freaks and liberals (as the content such as HuffHo shows!). Will VZ gut this crap and focus on mobile advertising, the whole point of these acquisitions? Or continue to let them run as largely autonomous businesses? That's the question.

When you visit the site with an ad blocker on, you see this beautiful background with a message telling you to turn off your ad blocker to support them. In short, turning off AdBlock to give money to feminism, gay people, Hillary supporters, trans children, and degenerates. Here's that atrocity of a background:

I beg to differ - in my experience much of Verizon's IT consulting staff are, like so many other IT jobs nowadays, filled by barely-qualified Indiots with H1B visas. By much, I mean damned near every last one of them are low wage cash cows for that division, a few with what I'm certain are fake credentials. But this observation of mine was a while ago and they may have also restructured since then.
From what I understand, AOL is little more than a gigantic data center with a few leftover pieces like HuffPo. Not a lot in the way of content from SJW typists anymore.
