RE: Red Pill Movies
The obvious mention: Fight Club.

I don't what it is, but the movie seems to get better and better every time I watch it.

I'm surprised The War of the Roses with Michael Douglas hasn't been mentioned. I mean, the unintentional redpill message is basically "don't marry psycho bitches" no?

I think we have too many movie threads. I think we can merge the Red Pill Movie thread with the Movie thread, and just mark the Red Pill movies as "Red Pill"

RE: Red Pill Movies
Blue Valentine is a crushing story

https://heartiste.wordpress.com/2011/01/...valentine/

"Blue Valentine is an exploration of a modern marriage in the process of disintegrating, told via alternating scenes between the couple’s sordid present and their romantically heady past of five or six years ago. The flashback scenes aren’t labeled as such; the viewer knows they are flashbacks by the youthful hairline of Ryan Gosling’s character, Dean, and by the fact that there’s no kid around. The effect of the flashbacks is like a prolonged near-death experience, where the characters’ dying relationship is punctuated by gauzy vignettes of happier times.

Although the theater was filled with SWPL women probably on a bender from Glee house parties, don’t mistake this film for a chick flic. There’s too much truth told in the portrayal of a relationship hitting the skids for this to be anything resembling the typical sappy romance movie. For one, there’s no happy ending. Women’s faces after a manipulative cheese-fest chick flic show the telltale signs of throat-lumped weepiness: the glisten of fresh tears on cheeks. But the crowd of women filing out of the theater after Blue Valentine had only the vacant-eyed look of a shellshocked soldier who has just seen his buddy catch shrapnel. Or, in this case, catch a little too much reality.

Quite simply, there hasn’t been a movie in our lifetimes which depicts the fall of a man from charming nascent alpha to inept needy beta, and the loathing that this engenders in his lover, better than Blue Valentine."

Yeah definitely! I´ve read reviews by angry women calling it misogynist.

Laugh4

That´s always a good sign that the movie is red pill. Because ***spoilers for Gone Girl*** apparently if a film shows women in a bad light or paints them as ruthless and manipulative psychopaths, then the filmmakers must be misogynists. Only men can be portrayed as villains.

Woody Allen's Crimes and Misdemeanors should be mentioned in this thread. This ROK post on the film goes into comprehensive detail, leaving nothing for me to add besides recommending you watch it

Oh great pick! And a really haunting portrayal of the drug world btw. I know it´s a movie that splits audiences. But I think it´s one of the most underrated films of the last years. The Grey (2011), starring Liam Neeson & directed by Joe Carnahan.

Film revolves around a number of oil-men stranded in Alaska after a plane crash, who are forced to survive using little more than their wits, as a pack of gray wolves stalk them amidst mercilessly cold weather.
There is no schoolboy fantasy heroism at play here. A 'universe doesn't owe us a favor' theme running throughout.
And..the lack of a Hollywood ending was a pleasant surprise.

Just saw Gone Girl. Most definitely red pill.

Red pill concepts included but not limited to:

1) The male burden of performance
2) The natural life cycle of a relationship
3) Male boredom and desire for multiple partners
4) Female psychopathic tendencies, attention to emotional detail, calculation

I saw that movie, it was so fucking trite. It was a shitty re-hash of The Edge, with Anthony Hopkins and Alec Baldwin. And the wolves looked more fake than Kim K's ass.

Didn't spoil my appreciation of the film at all. Maybe because i'm used to spending a fair bit of time in the wilderness myself. I thought Liam gave a strong performance. Would have been easier if the survivors could have used lard from the aforementioned Kim K's ass for fuel, soap & fat based soup, though. Idea

RE: Red Pill Movies
I agree with some other posters that discussion about movies with solid alpha male characters or pro-men movies is less interesting for this thread.

Rather, "red pill" movies are about the transformation, or realization, that the male character comes to.

Obviously Fight Club is a movie all about the red pill. And Office Space to an extent. I don't (ironically) see red-pill themes as the manosphere defines them in The Matrix, though some see this film as an allegory about "unplugging" from the drudgery of our consumerist existence (like the steak scene with Joe Pantoliano saying he prefers the phony comfort of The Matrix). I don't see it that way, though that's a discussion for another time.

I agree about the red-pill themes in The Dark Knight Rises: showing the true motives -- and logical conclusion -- of the social-justice warriors' attack on the successful "privileged" people, and how our venal politicians and feckless society as a whole will ultimately punish the honorable, resourceful man who is the last hope to stand up for what's right. It also shows the imperative of using force when necessary to battle those who seek to undermine our way of life. (I find this a very right-wing movie, too -- but that's a different, if related, dimension to the red pill.)

I would also add one of my favorites, Up in the Air. The classic Hollywood ending would have been for George Clooney to end up with Vera Farmiga; realize how hollow his transient, self-centered lifestyle is; and accept the obvious truth put forth by Anna Kendrick and his family that he is deluding himself by not wanting to live the conventional white-picket-fence life.

Instead, he shrugs off her rejection of him when she reveals herself as a typical duplicitous, attention-whoring slut; pooh-poohs the young girl's idealism; refuses to accept either of their self-righteous lectures denigrating his preferences; and returns to the life that he wants to live, on his own terms.

Clooney's speeches about "what's in your backpack" hilariously represent red-pill truths -- the way that these scenes are presented are perhaps intended to mock him and almost feel sorry for him. But in the end, his interactions with the two women didn't make him settle down like a beta, but rather reinforced his satisfaction with his life choices.

It kind of blew me away. It basically validated everything I already know about the hypergamous nature of women. But, seeing it depicted so nicely in a movie was interesting.

Anyone thinking about marriage should watch this. Not in order to not get married, but to not marry the wrong person.

Takeaways:

Don't marry a woman with a high notch count (say over just a few)
Don't become a white knight trying to save a woman from her predicament ( or past )
Don't , if possible, raise another man's children.
Don't lose frame, before or during LTRs , marriage.

RE: Red Pill Movies
Last night I was watching the first half of North to Alaska (1960) starring John Wayne. I've seen this move before, maybe twenty years ago, but forgot about it. It's a corny film by today's standards but it does illustrate a lot of game concepts quite well, even though I believe the Hollywood happy ending features the "alpha" John Wayne getting locked down.

John Wayne plays an alpha bigshot who hit pay dirt in the Alaska gold rush. His partner played by Stewart Granger is a total beta who pedestalizes his absentee fiancee, and his son played by the singer Fabian is thirsty and inexperienced so he pedestalizes women and turns them off. The love interest is a very good-looking prostitute played by the model-turned-actress Capucine. Interestingly, she appears to have been a real life "alpha widow":

From imdb:

Quote:When she committed suicide in March 1990 at the age of 62, her obituary in the New York Times stated that her only known survivors were her three cats.

She had some interesting quotes, though:

Quote:"Men spoil women in America. A woman needs to know that the man is her master."

"Every time I get in front of a camera, I think of it as an attractive man I am meeting for the first time. I find him demanding and aloof--so I must do all in my power to interest him."

Anyway, I've been thinking a lot about "frame" recently and how I've messed that up and I actually found this movie quite helpful in that regards. It shows how all "alpha game" flows simply from the mindset of viewing women as:

1) inferior, but in a matter-of-fact or even compassionate way, with no anger or animus behind it
2) replaceable
3) fun playthings, i.e. "entertainment", but ultimately unnecessary for personal fulfillment

RE: Red Pill Movies
A Boy and His Dog starring a young Don Johnson from 1975 is one of my all time favorites.

If you like Mad Max type of films, you will dig this. It is a post nuclear war flick about a young dude roaming the wasteland with his dog (with whom he can communicate telepathically). He ends up getting seduced by a woman and all hell breaks loose. I won't say any more as to not give out any spoilers. I wouldn't recommend reading any reviews as they may have spoilers that will ruin the ending as well.

I highly recommend it and think you will be pleasantly surprised. The movie's ending takes a couple Hollywood happy ending cliches and makes them it's bitch.

Here is the full movie.

RE: Red Pill Movies
I am surprised Borgia has not been mentioned that's playing on Netflix right now.

While this is a story of Rodrigo Borgia--Pope Alexander VI, his son, Cesare Borgia, is of more interest to this forum, as he is a perfect example of a Dark Triad Alpha.
The series shows his progression from ambitious boy studying for priesthood, to effective seducer and manipulator and military terror of Italy who does as he will.

Sure, he dies at 31, but as Stalin (the communist, not forum member) liked to say--"It is better to live 30 years as a hawk, than 300 as a vulture."
I say he did well--Machiavelli based The Prince on him when he wrote it.
About how many of us books were written?

There is also a nice parallel between Cesare Borgia, who is an ultimate alpha and to whom the women look, and Cardinal Farnese, his once and former friend, who is a beta and is constantly pestered and manipulated by women in his own family.

Warning:
This being a European production, there is plenty of nudity. So many dimes... This being a European production, there is plenty of male nudity, and in 3rd season, gay themes. The amount of female nudity, however, is greater.

Run down of the characters. Some parts of video are NSFW.

RE: Red Pill Movies
"Watchmen" is interesting from the points of view commonly held by members of the forum.
Doing the right thing is not popular-the heroes are outlawed by an unsympathetic government.
Living by your own rules-Rorschach, who refuses to see the world in anything other than black and white, to excuse others, or to compromise, ever, is one example of this-few people in life or fiction have the ability to stand by their principles, whatever it might cost them personally, or the power to enforce them.
Dr Manhattan demonstrates that humanity can only be united when the world allies against a perceived greater threat, and that power of any kind always becomes a weapon. When he becomes more than human, he swiftly becomes disenchanted with humanity too.

"2001: A Space Oddessy" is up there, too. A very Nietzschean film- 'man is a thing to be surpassed', etc and most of Kubrick's work is equally perceptive- "Barry Lyndon", which is visually as well as dramatically amazing and filmed entirely with candlelight and natural light, is about the life of a rogue keen on cheating at cards, social climbing, duels and marrying rich widows.

"The woman most eager to jump out of her petticoat to assert her rights is the first to jump back into it when threatened with a switching for misusing them,"

I don't think this has been mentioned yet (the search didn't yield any results for it)

Any Given Sunday.

Al Pacino turns in a stellar performance exemplified here:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=m_iKg7nutNY

The film touches on many tenets of Red Pill philosophy - camaraderie and teamwork, the aging process, sexual market value and work ethics to name a few.
I'd recommend it any day of the week and twice on any given Sunday.
