I always go to clubs/pubs in my v-cut t-shirt + jeans. It fits well and I look quite good. Most of my friends though go out in shirts + jeans. I wonder whether you ever tested if going out in shirt has some advantages or it is strictly irrelevant.

What kinds of shirts? Button downs, casual button ups, polos, henleys, cotton imitation-flannel shirts? I suppose the answer would depend on how you come across as a man. Choose a shirt that suits you. Polos are great for a preppy young man, or a relaxed professional. Button downs don't tend to look as great, but when they do, they're similar to a casual button up, which is great for someone who's interesting or fashionable. Henlys are a great Winter alternative for a t-shirt, and the thick long sleeves cover up skinny arms if you have them. Flannels are great for burly men in cooler weather. I will say this, t-shirts show off an athletic build, but that's about it; t-shirts make most men look bad.

Edit: on second thought, button downs are a good alternative to button ups if you're a fairly animated man, especially in your expressions.

How old are you?

If you're an older man, button downs are the way to go. Younger guys can get away with t-shirts and the like.

I'd keep rocking the V-neck if you think it looks good and you do well when you wear it. No need to follow the crowd.

A button-up and jeans is the average guy outfit for going out. Personally, I think it looks terrible in almost all cases, especially the typical checkered shirt that looks like you just got out of your boring 9-5 accounting job. Even if that's what you do, you want to send out an exciting, fun vibe when you're meeting girls. That type of look sends out a boring, corporate vibe that dries up pussy quick as hell.

My favorite outfit is a v-neck with jeans and boots, with a jacket or blazer over it. The blazer sends out a "classy" look, and the v-neck provides a casual contrast. I usually get complimented on my blazers most nights I go out.

Obviously some spots have dress code and require collared shirts, in which cases wear it. But at a casual bar, I think a v-neck is better than a button up.

A nice and tight dress shirt always gives a better impression than a random t-shirt. So skip the t-shirts.

And suit pants always gives a better impression than jeans. So skip the jeans.

Always dress to impress and be the best dressed man wherever you go, step your style game up and skip all of which you suggested. Don't wear the average stuff.

Well if you have to ask, that means you probably cant pull off the killer shirt + jeans look.

A well fitted shirt of a color that complements your skin complex is absolutely killer but I rarely ever see one pulling it off properly except some buff gay guys...

If you are well built and not too fashion savvy, stick with v-neck and jeans.

I exclusively wear a fitted t/ v neck in the summer with jeans, watch & stylish shoes. I only recommend this if you're very fit and muscular. (no man boobs or pouch)

Personally I think most button downs are kinda vanilla unless they are extremely well fitting/high quality.

Don't wear shorts ever out at night unless you're an amateur.(or maybe if it is a very humid tropic climate)

In the fall/winter I generally wear a sport coat with jeans.

if you are fit , better to go with t shirt , to show some advantages of your body

also shirt ,suit , blazer ... can give impression "work hard to impress" which is a turn off for some girls

I wear t shirts because I'm really fit but not huge. Don't wear them if you aren't fit, and you probably don't need to if you're big enough (combo of size and height).
Warm weather...jeans and a white tee
Cool weather...White tee with a slim black jacket (a real zip up coat), unzipped, like a James Dean look
Cold weather...White tee with my black winter coat because fuck the weather. Unzip when I walk in. The arctic winter James Dean look.
When it's cold though, I often go long sleeve Henley type shirt with jeans.

Sometimes I go button up black shirt, untucked, sleeves curled up with jeans (I have a specific lucky black shirt for this, all my friends know it's my lucky shirt, I'm unapologetic about it). I wear dark brown boots though, just my preference, and they're the boots I wear all the time. They work.

Classy (I'll admit I'm not great at classy):

My white t shirt game has taken a bit of a hit because there are certain bars (that turn clubs at night) that don't allow plain white tees because of gangs or something. It pains me, but I go different color.


I always feel good about my look, so if it's winter and I'm standing near the door, I'll leave my heavy coat on unzipped and feel like Wolverine. Yep it's cold, yep I want to stay warm, but don't fuck with me. And then talk to the ladies next to me at the bar.

At some point, and the age differs per person, I won't be able to pull off the t shirt or Henley.

I bought black shirt. I'm not convinced that it matches my blonde hair and blue eyes but it fitted very well so I'll give it a try with my grey jeans and new black leather belt I bought to match my new outfit.

If you're blonde with blue eyes, you would benefit from low contrast clothing... so if you're going for a black shirt, wear dark pants too...

As for the original question: Wear what makes you feel good and dress for the occasion. This way you'll be comfortable and won't need to worry. However don't be afraid to do something different from everyone else, it's a light form of peacocking.

If you drive (logistics), keep a back up set of clothing items in your car, that way if you go somewhere and feel under/over dressed, you can change and stop worrying about it. I do this often when moving between different places and social circles, especially with shoes. The bonus is that if you end up staying the night somewhere, you have some fresh clothes to put on in the morning if you need to.

I'm really trying to figure out ways to showcase my fashion sense when I go out casually, but blazers just don't fit at many locations that are very casual, when there is a younger crowd. The shirt + jeans look is the easiest, but gets hated on as too common. When it's cold, the shirt+sweater look can work but it sometimes looks too preppy.
