Hi,

I am a single American guy at a university in Russia. I am older than most of the other students (40), and so am conscious of not being 'that creepy guy', but at the same sometimes feel I have an advantage.

How would you play it?

1. which part of Russia are you in
2. what are you doing in the university
3. how long have you been and will be there
4. can you speak russian?
5. what is your game level

Hm....how did you score that...a 40 year old American in a Russian University!? Please tell me you are at least passing off as a grad student or on some research fellowship, at least that would put you in select company and you could easier blend in with most students and have a good background story.

either you're very lucky or the world's unluckiest expat. As a 40 year old student I would not be hitting on 18/19 year old's but would instead focus on the faculty and staff, especially those not associated with your classes. The added benefit would be that you could integrate easier into those social circles.

Yes, 'Но мои по Русски хреново' ('my Russian is fucked up' - I like saying that because it usually gets a smile))

5. what is your game level

I have been into daygame for a few years, and had a bone fide Russian playboy as a mentor/game partner for a while, approaching 3-10 times a day)) Ridiculous time) Now it's passive oportunistic, and at the university not at all.

What I mean by that quote is that the OP is 40 years old and may be struggling as a financially strapped older student in a 2nd tier city (unless it is Novosibirsk as OP mentioned Siberia).

He did not provide much info. If on the other hand if he were "loaded", lived in St. Pete or Moscow, and was majoring in a lucrative field and had built a social circle then Russia could be paradise.
