You need the animal's training certificate (not sure how the fuck this would work with a hamster). You also need to check with where you are going, assuming you're flying out of the country, with their laws and regulations regarding animals coming into the country. If you don't do this, your animal will be quarantined for 6 weeks or more.

It's against the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) for the airline (or anyone) to ask you what the animal is for. That's like I have to prove to you I'm handicapped, which doesn't work. My health is not any of your business.

When you get these clowns trying to take peacocks and hamsters onto planes (which obviously isn't very much emotional support, since she flushed it down the toilet, wtf?), it just muddies the waters for everyone.

Not exactly true. If youre claiming its an ESA you have to provide a letter from a mental health professional. Its in effect a prescription for the ESA. The airlines will ask you for this.

There is no training requirement/ certificate component for traveling with an ESA.

Book a bus ticket or release the little guy into the wild. The hamster would have died in a day or two anyway. I hope someone arrests her for animal abuse.

While it's not very common, during peak demand airport rental agencies DO run out of cars, they also rarely are open 24/7 so there's a limitation that way as well.

I don't think papaya TAPPER has an actual service animal, he's on the fringe, but knows the rules. I don't want to come out and say what I know.

Nonetheless, imagine if the stewardess pointed up to the first class cabin and said Richard Gere was on the plane. Then imagine the stewardess waking up Richard like "sir, we have a hamster on board." Now there's a story.

You can be resident RVF ESA expert

I dont own a service dog. I am however adept at and fond of finding loopholes to my advantage Wink

https://www.emotionalpetsupport.com/2017...-can-esas/

Quote:What Types of Animals Can Be Emotional Support Animals?
An emotional support animal (ESA) is a dog or other common domestic animal that provides therapeutic support to a disabled or elderly owner through companionship, non-judgmental positive regard, affection, and a focus in life. Emotional support animals are typically dogs and cats, but may include other animals. In order to be prescribed an emotional support animal by a physician or other medical professional, the person seeking such an animal must have a verifiable disability.

What Animals Qualify To Be An ESA?
All domesticated animals may qualify as an ESA (cats, dog, mice, rabbits, birds, hedgehogs, rats, mini pigs, ferrets, etc.) and they can be any age (young puppies and kittens, too!). These animals do not need any specific task-training because their very presence mitigates the symptoms associated with a persons psychological/emotional disability, unlike a working service dog. The only requirement is that the animal is manageable in public and does not create a nuisance in or around the home setting.

How To Qualify

types of animals

Unlike Service Dogs, Emotional Support Animals are much easier to qualify for because the animal does NOT need to be specifically trained to perform a task. Rather, you as the handler must qualify by having an emotional/mental need to have that animal be with you at home or when traveling to provide emotional support.
For a person to legally qualify for an emotional support animal (ESA), he/she must be considered emotionally disabled by a licensed mental health professional (therapist, psychologist, psychiatrist, etc.), as evidenced by a properly formatted prescription letter.* Typically, a medical doctor does not qualify because they are not a licensed mental health professional. Some airlines and property managers will accept a verification form completed by a family doctor, however.

The letter should state that:

You are currently his/her patient
Are under his/her care for the treatment of mental disability found in the DSM IV or V (the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders, version 4 or 5).
Your disability substantially limits at least one major life activity
He/she prescribes for you an emotional support animal as a necessary treatment for your mental health.

* I imagine that when you call the airline as required to notify them you will be traveling with your ESA they probably flag your passenger with a "W" for wingnut.

I wonder what they flag you with when you request the "halal" meal?

I heard about this on the radio. She has already gotten the attention she craved. Of course, she's a dumb blonde in her early 20's or younger--kind of Natalee Holloway.

You are not supposed to flush animals or any other foreign objects down public toilets. This includes other things that women flush down toilets. Airport officials should see that is charged with vandalism or attempted vandalism of public property. She could have caused major problems with the plumbing or septic system.

Animal cruelty will be the best route though. That way, we can get her institutionalized before she abuses any children. This bitch is crazy, a potential Casey Anthony or Andrea Yates.

The ADA had good intent. Where those with disabilities (and a growing number of those without) now take advantage of these protections, well, it's disgusting and antithesis to the intended purpose.

Female Hamster Hamsters After She Murdered Her Pet Hamster, Blames Airline & Sues
I see more and more people who are joined at the hip with their pets. Sometimes they just bring their pets everywhere. I love dogs, so I usually find myself approaching them.

I do have a different attitude toward service dogs. They are working.

And there are way too many of them. I know one guy who has a service dog who is very poorly behaved.

Of course, many dogs are absolutely amazing. Many of them can sense when things are wrong even people can't. Dogs can sense high and low blood sugar. They can sense when people are sick.

Quote:Belle Weaver is flying into the nation's capital today to receive an award for saving a family member's life. Before she leaves town, she'll meet with her congressman, accept a certificate autographed by a football great and bow her head to receive a medal.

Stories such as hers, of heroism and quick thinking, are always inspiring. But this one has a twist, and not just because Belle is 3 years old.

You see, Belle Weaver is a beagle. She used her owner's cellphone to call 911.

Her owner, Kevin Weaver, 34, was in the throes of a diabetic seizure, lying unconscious on his kitchen floor in Ocoee, Fla., when Belle located his phone and chomped down on the keypad, triggering a call.

The only thing emergency dispatchers heard was barking, but it was enough cause to send help, they reasoned. Weaver, a former flight attendant, woke up hours later in the hospital, weak and disoriented. Belle was there by his side, having finagled a ride in the ambulance.

When you get these clowns trying to take peacocks and hamsters onto planes (which obviously isn't very much emotional support, since she flushed it down the toilet, wtf?), it just muddies the waters for everyone.

What's your disability?

lol... You're not allowed to ask me that.

There is no training requirement/ certificate component for traveling with an ESA.

Papaya Trapper is actually our foremost expert on this situation. Trust me. Send him a private message.

He knows the rules. Keep up the good work.

Aloha!

I'm not sure, but I think I'm the mostly qualified on this topic. I mean, I have a service dog. Maybe some other members has one as well, but not likely They're actually kind of rare. No worries if he does, kudos. No big deal.

Whatever.

I just don't think a hamster qualifies. In fact, I'm quite sure it doesn't.

OK.

Aloha!

You're wrong Kona. It is actually illegal for someone to ask you about a service animal. I deal with this on the daily.

It's not "illegal" to ask certain questions but you can be sued for discrimination if handled improperly. It is however, most certainly lawful for an airline to refuse a customer who does not present the proper paperwork and give formal notice, in advance. There are also size/species restrictions. 9 times out of 10, there are no issues. These wackos and their crazy pets and attention whoring have got to stop though.

It is quite illegal. I'm not making this up. On the airlines, yes there are parameters.

Namely, the thing about the dawg's vaccinations.

I can bring my dog into any place, and the fact of the matter is, the dog has more of a right to be there than any person that works there. The manager, the owner, whoever, cannot come up to me and ask me anything about the dog.

If you read my former comments, you'll see I've already addressed what you just said.
