New Mad Max officially ruined by mangina writer/director
So I've been a Mad Max devotee ever since I first saw Mad Max more than 30 years ago. It's been one of my favourite films (and my favourite Aussie film) ever since. So I turn 40 on Thursday and the new Mad Max comes out on the same day. Win/win, right? I was really really looking forward to going to see this. Not anymore.
I just read the article below.
For those of you who don't know who Eve Ensler is, she makes Jessica Valenti and Amanda Marcotte look reasonable.
Vagina Monologues Writer Eve Ensler: How Mad Max: Fury Road Became a ‘Feminist Action Film’
Quotes for the lads.
Quote:Furiosa encounters Max on the road, and they team up in search of a matriarchal promised land with bad guys in hot pursuit. Theron, not Hardy, leads the charge; she also does the majority of the fighting.
Quote:I think George Miller is a feminist, and he made a feminist action film.
Quote:We spoke about sex trafficking in America, which is rampant.
Quote:I was really blown away by the older women in the film who were just as good fighters as the men. I’d never seen that before. They all have so much agency and independence.
Quote:All the women in the film maintain their inherent woman-ness. They’re tender and loving and still fierce. They get to be all those things. It’s this powerful question: how do women survive in a patriarchal, violent culture? How do they keep their souls intact in a war zone?
Quote:One of the great things about this film is that when you have women on your side, you have a better chance of surviving.
So there you go. I really had high hopes for this new movie after seeing the trailer. George Miller really fucked up big time with Beyond Thunderdome, which was an absolute piece of shit. Not even Angry Anderson could save it. It seems that he has not only not learned from writing/directing such a horrible movie 30 years later, but he's gotten much much worse.
George Miller, you are officially an embarrassment to Australia and masculinity.

RE: New Mad Max officially ruined by mangina writer/director
When I saw the trailer I posted on Twitter that Mad Max was going to be a feminist piece, but I guess the reality is much much worse. The women who all look like models and have also the muscle-mass of runway models are kicking ass like no tomorrow.
In reality the Mad Max world would be an extreme patriarchy so far removed from matriarchy that current Saudi Arabia would appear like a Jezebel heaven.
Women would be exclusively sex objects, mothers and home workers.
Of course the shit-lords had to make it all about the women and even create a matriarchal "utopia" where they are all riding.
Quote:I was really blown away by the older women in the film who were just as good fighters as the men. I’d never seen that before. They all have so much agency and independence.
Yeah - older women are the true hardasses in real life - battlefield in ancient times were always filled with 50 year old women who were fighting on par with men in their prime.
Quote:He could have easily paired Charlize and Tom. But it was like, we’re not going to make this about a woman gives up her power and falls in love with a guy. They’re going to fight side by side, and the woman will save the man one moment and he’ll save her the next.
And this is also a central point. Hollywood wants romance and families gone, that's why in children's movies parents are killed off brutally for children to get imprinted that they are alone. Also the bond between man and woman is to be depicted as unimportant. In the first movie Mad Max fought to revenge his wife and kids.
Now he fights for matriarchy, doesn't get shit (White Knight hope) and "saves" a bunch of women who have likely a life much more superior to the rest of humanity. In reality those women would remain in luxurious captivity than to risk it all - beside the fact that all of them would be pregnant and mothers at that point. But I guess that those details matter little.
Stupid assholes ruining all movies.

Right? The original Mad Max is manly as fuck (so is the second one, but let's stick to realism).
-- SPOILER ALERT --
It's all about a guy who kills a dude (sort of) who just broke out of prison and then proceeds to get revenge on the bikie gang that kills his wife and son. It's balls to the wall from start to finish. Rape, beatings, torture, murder. It's got everything. Badarse dudes just being unapologetically fucken badarse.
-- END SPOILER ALERT --
I remember really not liking Thunderdome, even when I was 10. My dad took us kids to the movies to see it and that's the first (and last) time I watched it. Even then I thought it was crap, hahaha.

RE: New Mad Max officially ruined by mangina writer/director
Quote:It’s a sort of sneaky feminism. When you say the premise—a woman warrior escapes with female sex slaves—that doesn’t necessarily sound like a blockbuster. But because it’s an action film, guys will see it. Something similar is happening with another summer film: Amy Schumer, who’s a really outspoken feminist comedian, is coming out with the rom-com Trainwreck. LeBron James is in the movie, which I think might lure men who might not otherwise go. Is that subversive feminism the best way to address women’s issues in film?
One day, we won’t have to sneak it. One day we will be overt. One of the great things about this film is that when you have women on your side, you have a better chance of surviving. It’s clear that we’re all served better when women are equal. We don’t want to dominate. We just want our stories to be given equal consideration—to also get a spot on the playing field.
For all those who have defended the Amy Schumer movie and claimed that it's not propaganda if a slut is depicted funny and dorky, the same goes for Park and Recreation - propaganda nowadays is done the smart way unless you know what to look for.

Too bad but not surprising. I wasn't going to see it in the theater anyways, but now I won't even give it a courtesy view.
The real let down here is that George Miller, the director of the first 3 "real" Mad Max movies directed this crapfest. It's all about the money...
“….and we will win, and you will win, and we will keep on winning, and eventually you will say… we can’t take all of this winning, …please Mr. Trump …and I will say, NO, we will win, and we will keep on winning”.

What you see here actually has very little to do with "Mad Max." It's really part of a much, much larger media campaign called "Lubing the country up for Hillary."
This is also why there have been TV shows showing women in power like "State of Affairs" (recently canceled) and a constant barrage of movies showing women in men's jobs like cops (like the recent "Hot Pursuit," starring 5'1" Reese Witherspoon as a cop).
They're trying to rejig the social landscape to make way for Hillary. It's probably more unconsciously coordinated than consciously, but it's still there. I peg (heh) this start of this campaign to way back in 2005, when ABC debuted the short-lived drama about a woman president, "Commander-in-Chief," starring Geena Davis.
Expect to soon see a lot more odd juxtapositions along the lines of Eve Ensler talking about "Mad Max" as the election draws nearer. But remember, it's not about what it pretends to be about. It's really about lubing the country up.

The original Mad Max is not balls to the wall from start to finish. There are large parts of the film that are really pretty boring. It only gets good near the end.
As for Fury Road? I'm going to see it if the audience reviews are decent on Rotten Tomatoes. I watched a clip where Charlize Theron tries to kick a chained-up Max's ass with a huge wrench and fails. There is also a clip of her shooting people down with a rifle, but even a trained child can do that.
The impression I got from the clips I've watched is that Theron plays a lesbian kidnapper with a bionic arm who steals harem slaves from a psycho warlord named Immortan Joe (played by the same actor who played Toecutter in the original), who also captured and enslaved Max. Max manages to escape and links up with Theron's character. How that happens, I don't know.

I for one am glad the Gyro guy will not return (as disgusting as his eating habits were, he was my favorite sidekick ever). I wouldn't want him to be disgraced by this trash. And I'd like to remember him as he was: As snake-like as a guy can get, buuuuut... if you got him on your good side, he'd be YOUR snake and attack anything you wanted. Hmm, kinda like Fallout.
The first time I saw Road Warrior, I remember thinking how cool it'd be if Max, while he's chomping down Dingy dog food, to throw this guy a tube of toothpaste for lunch.
Anyway what we really need is for some film student who reads this forum regularly to kickstart a series of post-apocalyptic red pill flicks.
Not holding my breath though.
