Nintendo - why didn't they use this idea?
So - six years ago - a genius by the name of Johnny Lee came up with a brilliant hack which allows the Nintendo Wii to be converted to enable 3D graphics (without the need for glasses) and head tracking.

And ever since then - Nintendo has done nothing with the idea.

Anybody know why?

they make most of their money on the hand helds, maybe they are using this sort of tech for the 3ds?

The 3DS uses different technology.

Funnily enough - I have yet to use a Nintendo Wii or a 3DS.

I don't like video games. But the idea above is so ingenious that I was waiting to see what Nintendo would do with it. And it amazes me they haven't done anything with it.

Shit like this really makes you lose faith in things. Nintendo is possibly the most innovative company ever. And they get handed a fantastic revolutionary idea on a plate.

And then... nothing!

Seems crazy to me.

What's interesting also is that Apple applied for a head tracking patent that looked very similar to what Johnny did around 6 months after the video was uploaded to youtube.

Seems like everyone saw the huge potential in it besides Nintendo.

I just watched that video in the O.P, and me and my mate were fucking going crazy over the amazing 3D effect. It's just amazing! Imagine playing games like that?!

PS4. No way I'm giving Microsoft anymore of my money. I've been thru probably 10 controllers and 3 Xbox 360's in the past 6 years. Complete pieces of crap.

On top of that the Xbox One is a covert surveillance device:

Quote:Three aspects raise concerns. Firstly the device requires connection to the internet (although not apparently, the continuous connection originally thought). Secondly, it does require continuous connection to Kinect. And thirdly, Kinect is always on. These three aspects mean that anything in front of the device can be recorded, both sound and video, and can be transmitted back to Microsoft over the internet while it is connected.

...
...

But there still remains a problem. Kinect is always on and always listening – ostensibly for that command, ‘Xbox on’. What is not yet clear is what would happen if the ‘Xbox on’ command came from US law enforcement rather than the user. Would Microsoft respond favorably? Could the camera and recording aspects be switched on remotely and surreptitiously following a request from the FBI? It’s not possible to switch off Kinect’s microphone, and the camera is infra-red, meaning it can ‘see’ in the dark and through objects or tape meant to obscure it.

Turns out that they can do this without glasses.

So cool.
