I'm interested in Macau because they speak Portuguese there. How similar is it to Brazilian Portuguese?

I'm very curious of Macau. In part because it's very close to Hong Kong in its capitalistic tendencies this in turn is always a good sign that the populace is more sexually liberated when compared to the more repressive governance found deeper into China. Couple this with the fact that the Chinese middle class in general is going through a sexual revolution now.

The Economist recently had a good piece on the Casino patriarchs of Macau. Apparently these guys are getting really on in the years' and there's now a quiet war among their offspring over their legacies. Sounds like the basis for a movie, and it's an interesting story I'd use as a cover for being in town in some way.

Actually not that many locals still speak Portuguese though most of the signs and buses have Portuguese as well as Chinese. You definitely could not get by there with Portuguese in terms of talking to locals.

I've never partied in Macau but my general impression is that it's like Vegas without the tens of thousands of sluts who drive from CA for the wknd. So it's basically middle age men looking for hookers, from what I hear at least. Prostitution is HUGE there.

I was walking in one of the biggest casinos into the food court area and all of a sudden I saw a really hot girl in a mini skirt walking down the hall. I immediately thought she must be going to a club, but then 3 feet after her, I saw another hot girl in a miniskirt. Turns out it was a hooker line up. They just walk up and down this hallway and the Chinese men look at them on the sidelines. If they like anyone they negotiate a price and take them to their hotel.

Now imagine that happening at the Wynn or MGM Grand in Vegas.

Prostittution is huge all over China, seen the ladies with the numbers on them yet? Macau doesn't have free drinks or black jack, so before everyone runs there, know it set up for Chinese not westerners.

- Prostitution is huge in Macau, yes. Hookers are working the casino floors. At the Venetian a lot of them seemed to be ladyboys which makes it even worse...
- Very few Westerners come to Macau, which is good, as you can stand out more. It's mostly Mainland Chinese and people from Hong Kong that come in to gamble. Oh, and I also encountered some Japanese.
- Portuguese does not help you at all (not that I could actually speak it). Taxi drivers do not even speak English and you should therefore carry your hotel's card with you when you want to get home.

True, no free drinks and I could harld find any blackjack tables. The few they had at the MGM were laughable. Baccarat seems to be big...

And I forgot to mention but the quality of girls is overall pretty good, especially compared to Mainland China. As there is a lot of money in town, pretty girls get drawn into it. Problem is that they are quite materialistic and it is not uncommon to see fat old Chinese guys with some stunning young thing on their arms (though sometimes it could be a "chicken", as the Chinese say).

Am sitting in rural China as I type this. Prostitution is not "huge" all over China. It's actually quite difficult to find, and they don't like to serve Western customers that much.

Just bc you haven't found it in your city doesn't mean it doesn't exist. IF your in some village in Tibet or Xinjiang province maybe it's not around but any city is loaded with pros. Drive across rural China and there are dozens of hookers standing by all the toll stations for truck drivers to bang.

walk around at night, get off the main roads and the pink light will appear. Trust me every city has rich men, and communist party members, and they all bang pros. If you're in some dirt poor village then maybe it is hard to find. So I'll change my statement: in Chinese cities prostitution is huge. In villages, the desert, the Himalaya's and in rivers, pros are harder to find.

Come on, prostitution is generally HUGE all over the world. Even in Iran, India, Saudia Arabia, or villages in Africa it's available. I remember walking around Deira in Dubai late at night and at one intersection is was packed with nasty Africa and Asian whores. I hear even in Afghanistan there are lots of working girls there. It's pretty universal.

That said, it does seem Chinese guys like their hookers a little bit more than elsewhere. I've noticed this also in places that have lots of Chinese people like Jakarta, Singapore and Kuala Lumpur. Wherever there is a large Chinese population, they'll be a thriving nightlife and prostitution industry. It's guaranteed from what I've seen.

According to Wikipedia Macau has the highest ratio of women to men of anywhere in the world. I thought you guys would be slaying it there.

I just checked Wikipedia, no such thing. Actually, China has one of the worst male-female ratios in the world, there is something like 130Million more men than women in China. Seeing how Macau is a territory of China I doubt that quote of yours holds true.

In all reality though speaking of the highest ratio of women to men in the world (N. Mariana Islands don't count) it is Estonia as there is 1 women per 0.84 men
