Interesting anti-cuckoldry measures of ancient soldiers
Biblical narrative Wrote:The meaning of the Hebrew form of the name "Bathsheba" is "daughter of the oath". Bathsheba was the daughter of Eliam. Bathsheba was the wife of Uriah the Hittite, and afterward of David, by whom she gave birth to Solomon, who succeeded David as king.

The story of David's seduction of Bathsheba, told in 2 Samuel 11, is omitted in Chronicles. The story is told that David, while walking on the roof of his palace, saw Bathsheba, who was then the wife of Uriah, having a bath. He immediately desired her and later made her pregnant.

In an effort to conceal his sin, David summoned Uriah from the army (with whom he was on campaign) in the hope that Uriah would re-consummate his marriage and think that the child was his. Uriah was unwilling to violate the ancient kingdom rule applying to warriors in active service. Rather than go home to his own bed, he preferred to remain with the palace troops.

After repeated efforts to convince Uriah to have sex with Bathsheba, the king gave the order to his general, Joab, that Uriah should be placed in the front lines of the battle, where it was the most dangerous, and left to the hands of the enemy. Ironically, David had Uriah himself carry the message that ordered his death. After Uriah was dead, David made the now widowed Bathsheba his wife.

David's action was displeasing to the Lord, who accordingly sent Nathan the prophet to reprove the king. After relating the parable of the rich man who took away the one little ewe lamb of his poor neighbor, the king at once confessed his sin and expressed sincere repentance. Bathsheba's child by David was struck with a severe illness and died a few days after birth, which the king accepted as his punishment.

Nathan also noted that David's house would be cursed with turmoil because of this murder. This came to pass years later when one of David's much-loved sons, Absalom, led an insurrection that plunged the kingdom into civil war. Moreover, to manifest his claim to be the new king, Absalom had sexual intercourse in public with ten of his father's concubines, which could be considered a direct, tenfold divine retribution for David's taking the woman of another man.

In David's old age, Bathsheba secured the succession to the throne of her son Solomon, instead of David's eldest surviving son Adonijah. (1 Kings 1:11-31).

The story of David's adultery sets up the context for the penitential Psalm 51 (50), also known as "Miserere" ("Have mercy on me, O God").

Unlike so many soldiers who come back from today's wars and are soon after greeted with pregnant women saying that the child "might be his", it seems that the old cultures had some kind of regulation saying that a soldier could not go home to his wife immediately afterwards. If they don't have sex for half a year after return from service, there's no way he can be cuckolded. Revolutionary!

And note, it wasn't just his decision that's wise compared to today's Beta soldiers tolerating the fact that their wives had gangbangs with students, it was actually a rule for everyone in the kingdom. A comparative measure today would be state-instituted obligatory DNA paternity tests. I never knew that I'd find this stuff in the Bible.

p.s. in this case, I'd say most of the blame rests on David for shafting his loyal servant in a devious way, given that women didn't have much power those days.

Even though a lot of people make light of the rules in the Old Testament, they worked for thousands of years at keeping society together. It's sort of interesting to read the Bible through the knowledge of Game because you pick up on the reasons behind so many rules or actions that a lot of modern clergy put a lampshade on.

Agreed, but you could never sell it as 100% mandatory. Though you could get clever and mandate it for those trying to get child support in divorce cases, etc, since that is a state sponsored entity.

I'll write the thread you should've written...

This is of pretty limited use. But there's actually technique that Israelites used that effectively reduced cuckoldry. And it's *still* in use today by observant Jews. In fact, studies have found it used among non-Jews as well. I'm talking about the practice of classifying menstruating women as 'ritually impure' and thus separating them from men while they menstruate. To restore their purity, women must bathe in a special pool. If they don't, both she and the man she fucks will lose their share in the 'world to come.' See http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Niddah . Here's an article about a similar practice among African tribesmen: http://ns.umich.edu/new/releases/20423-r...-paternity . And the original paper: http://www.pnas.org/content/early/2012/0...9.abstract

The headline of the link says it all:

Religious patriarchy promotes confidence about paternity

If someone questions patriarchy, simply state that patriarchy is true and proper because 'Patriarchy protects paternity.'

Homers Odyssey offers an alternative method.Organize a competition for the woman, to get all suitors in one place, so that you can deal with them all at once.

Actually Orthodox Judaism does a lot of things right in regards to women now that I think about it. Very patriarchal, women and men are generally separate. Women have to wear clothes that hide their figure and hair at all times except in the bedroom (tsnius). The extended family is still in place for raising kids. Women end up having 8 to 12 children. This seems to keep them in shape generally too. Much more feminine than non-orthodox. I just can't stand going to services and all of the rules you have to follow.

For some reason husband and wife do not sleep together unless having sex for kids. They sleep in seperate beds. Each time they menstruate they have to have a ritual bath in a mikveh, which probably keeps the hamster in line too.

I love the Old Testament, I think it can teach you a lot about life.

The New Testament? Cant get down with that. I see it as Propaganda to push Christianity on people. I know the focus is on showcasing Jesus but I would have rather it been more like the Old Testament with just portions having to do with him. Its too singular a story.

But the Old Testament, it teaches you lessons on life. Its much more broad and tells a complete story, not just pushing one idea like the New Testament.

Wasn't it Houellebecq who said something like he couldn't stand religion but on balance, he would prefer it over a secular society since it kept everyone bound by a moral code?

I sort of fucked up my first post. I meant to add that traditional Judaism required a woman to ritually bathe herself after menstruation, in order to have sex with her husband again. And this period of the ovulatory cycle, right after menstruation, coincides with peak fertility, supposedly. So you have this blue-balled husband waiting to bust a nut ASAP, ready to pounce on her as she's clean, and his wife thinks she'll go to hell if she fucks anyone while still ritually impure. Not a bad recipe for protecting paternity.

The main thing the Orthodox get right is the strong taboo against divorce. The more religious ones also abstain from owning a television. Your claim that they only fuck to have kids is not correct. In fact the man is expected to fuck his wife a certain number of times per month.

The religion is very patriarchal, but it's subdued by the fact that lots of the men are soft (aka nebbish), and the less Hassidic women are over-educated crypto-feminists. I'd bet that Mormons have a stronger pimp hand than Orthodox, non-Haredi Jews. In fact, one of the great divisions between 'Modern Orthodox' Judaism and Haredi Judaism is their respective treatment of women.

With any religion, there is what the books say, and what the people do. Christianity is a patriarchal religion, but there isn't much desire for patriarchy among its adherents today, so its reduced to being a 'Girl Power!' institution, as the blogger Dalrock profiles. Orthodox Judaism is similar in some respects, though usually not nearly as bad.

For whatever fucking reason today, no one wants to give credence to the +2,000 years of written history. The ancients had most things figured out.

Machiavelli, back in 1400's, who had done his own research of what past societies had done to prosper, wrote about what it takes to make a strong country. He believed that for a country to prosper, it needed character strength , or virtue, which could only be fostered by the noble lie.

He believed that most people if left to their own accords would be overtaken by their indulges. Therefore, he felt that virtue had to be instilled by institutions. In particular, he believed that religion was and should be the method to instil the virtue that was needed to maintain a culture. He called this the noble lie because while he didn't quite believe in god, he did see the benefit to society in following a religion.

The Old Testament is good stuff: it shows that "there nothing new under the son"

The David story is also a commentary on how and why elite men throughout history have used WAR.

War has been used -amongst other things - as a mechanism to eliminate other males.......especially the younger, more virile, higher T, males - the ones most likely to upset the cart o to speak and most likely to steal the attentions of the females.

population control and competition control.
