I've started getting into country music quite a bit lately (Zac Brown Band - my fav, Brad Paisley, Toby Keith, Jason Aldean, Darius Rucker, etc)....

I like it. It's honest music.

That said, I'm definitely going to check out some Cowboy states, like Wyoming and Montana, next year once the weather gets warm out there again.

Anyone have intel on this lifestyle?

I'm talking specific locations, the right attire, etc.

I hear Jackson, Wyoming and Bozeman/Missoula, Montana are must-see places in the region. I love the great outdoors and the US has some of the best places in the world for that.

Trying to expand my horizons as I get older and learn more things.

I'd go out there and standout. Dressing like the local populous has never done me any good. Congrats on picking up on country music. The newer stuff sucks. I got ole skool with some Highwaymen, or anything off this label:

I have family in Montana. They are real cowboys. I've been there. People are friendly. They will give you a chance. The biggest problem I see is that there are not alot of targets.

Basically learn how to square dance and drink whiskey like a man. Probably the hardest thing you're going to have to put up with is rednecks. The girls are generally very sweet though.

I think a big problem is that a lot of the girls move away at 18 to go to college. So a lot of your targets are not there. Then when they finish college they stick in the new area because it is more fun and exciting.

Cool. Anyone with specific experience in these places?

Definitely got the whiskey part down, especially my bourbons like Maker's Mark. Also, I tried this Honey-flavored Jack Daniels while I was in Denver. Loved it.

I love Montana. I have spent a lot of time down there on the Flathead. Whitefish is a pretty good town, in fact out of all the "small cowboy towns" this one has always been the best for me (in summer). Winter it fills up more with skiers and boarders, so there is a lot more guys.

I think Missoula has some good potential when school is in.

My dad loves Wyoming. He works down there a lot and on days off just rides the country on his Hog. He is based out of Casper and does the Casper- Cody and Casper- Jackson road a lot. He is old school Alberta cowboy and fits right in down there. Lots of new money pouring into the region as well. Dude ranches, hollywood, etc. Jackson especially.

For women, its best to stick to places with big lodges. The staff is mostly college girls hired for the summer.

Haha exactly what I was thinking. I've never heard of rednecks just welcoming strangers into their circle, especially if they ain't from the state or area. Double especially if you're not white. Some of those guys are cool, crazy white boys but most are narrow minded idiots that I would never want to hang out with and vice versa. Come take a trip down here and we can go around East Texas

Don't let Bon Jovi fool you. Cowboys and rednecks can't pull in NJ. Bitches just shut them out. I've seen it a million times

I picked up a broad from Montana a few months back in NYC. Very sweet and friendly disposition. I'll definitely hit her up if I'm ever out that way.

HC- I didn't see many women when I went through Montana but I can tell you that it's the most beautiful place I've ever laid eyes on. The place looks like Skyrim on Xbox haha

Yeah. I'm going to go there anyway, whether there's women or not. I love the nature out there. But any insights on the local women would be cool. I'm guessing it's just laid back and friendly which is an environment that suits me well.

Yeah, I have always had an appreciation for country culture as well. The music is good, and the culture just seems laid back with its prime focus on beer, women and patriotism..

I know one thing though, sporting country attire in an urban setting actually can peacock you positively.. I live in urban California and have a favorite black cowboy hat I wear sometimes to the clubs.. there is no other element of my wardrobe which garners me as much attention from the chicks

I have to admit, I'd be pretty uncomfortable around that way. A lot of people live up there for a reason, if you get my drift. Show up to the wrong bar at the wrong time and it may be full of Hell's Angels. Kudos to you though if you decide to explore it. All in all, you'd probably be more in danger from grizzly bears than white supremacists. Missoula would probably be okay. I'm sure the region is amazing for outdoor activities, just look out for grizzlies!

I don't worry about people like that. I figure most people round those parts are pretty decent. Extreme stories always get lots of attention. I've actually met cool people from Montana and Wyoming. Missoula as you said is pretty cool apparently. Lots of liberal staples out there like wine tastings, art galleries, and coffeeshops.

Even country music, some folks might be surprised how diverse it is as a genre.

My favorite country band - Zac Brown Band - has lots of types of songs with various influences from reggae to latin to hip hop.

Brad Paisley - who pokes fun at his own fans - just inducted Darius Rucker (from Hootie and the Blowfish fame) into the Grand Ole Opry. They've done songs together and are good friends.

You like JD from Tenessee and Makers Mark from KY , you got to come down here and do the Borbon Trail

Not trying to hype up Nashville but it is a fun little town, Miami of the Midwest as I call it, You can find whatever you are looking for, Mostly the Honky Tonk bars with Girls in Daisy Duke Shorts and Cowboy boots on one extreme to Salsa Music and even Electronic Dance Music on the other end. Country with some class

Vanderbilt University 2 miles from downtown, come on down on a Game weekend.... mind boggling.....

Nashville should be on your shortlist HC but I will wait till it gets a little warmer April/May should be best when college kids are still in town.

IMO Non-White people who dress Stylishly can do well in this town I think HC will stand out in a good way as reported in this thread post # 9, 11 and more.../thread-3258-page-1.html
