I was at my job a few weeks back talking to this one guy who happened to be in the building that day doing a service for a client. We started talking and we got to the topic of what type of work we do. I found out he was a full time sign language interpreter and he was with this client to ease communication throughout the day. He told me he had been doing this line of work for over 40 years now and that he had built himself quite a reputation in his field. Sadly I didn't get a business card but that got me thinking. Imagine a situation where you see a girl you find attractive and you go up to talk to her only to find out she's deaf. Now you could probably communicate through writing but that could get annoying real quick and can kill your game. Imagine how big of a DHV it would be to actually communicate with her in sign language and put yourself apart from the vast majority of guys who don't know it. You could probably pull a lot of deaf ass just recruiting cute deaf girls to help you practice. Sounds like a solid niche to me.

On another note, though, I'm sure a lot of these women have inferiority issues and other mental hang-ups. A lot would get attached easy.

I personally like to leave them better than I find them - running through deaf chicks would probably make that difficult. lol

Regarding employment as an American Sign Language (ASL) interpreter you have two choices: you can either become a freelance ASL interpreter or go work for an agency as a contract interpreter. As a freelance interpreter you're responsible for building and maintaining your client base. If you decide to work for an agency you'll go basically do assignments where needed. In either case you need to get certified and then choose a specialty (schools, courts, doctors, hospitals, legal, conferences, etc). Keep in mind a Bachelor's degree may be required when going for certification. The average salary goes around $40,000 but can go much higher, the guy I spoke to was making $70,000+.

@Beyond Borders- You do have a point there but take a look around you. The majority of chicks who CAN hear and speak seem to carry greater potential for craziness and instability than their impared counterparts.

I think the entire world should learn sign language as a mandatory second language at school. It will make things easier/simpler. All the five or so different sign languages should be standardized into just one, international sign language.

then you can go anywhere in the world and communicate effortlessly with random people that you dont normally speak their native language. It wont matter if you are from china or zimbabwe or argentina... with one international sign language as a universal second language, we will be able to communicate with each other.

well, the blind will be left out...and of course, you cannot really communicate in secret with sign language(everybody can see what you are saying.)

It wont even matter how loud the bar/club is...you will still be able to communicate your tight game.

You will be able to communicate and schedule plans with your friends across some distance, even at a loud rock concert where you are both separated by loud, massive throngs of people.

You can flirt verbally with one girl, and signing pick-up another girl at the same time. multitasking.

That's the first thing that struck my mind - employment opportunities.

The mentality is all wrong. Deaf girls are automatically a DLV because youre normal and they are handicapped. All the deaf girls I know get a hard on for hearing guys who put in the effort to communicate with them... The real pussy comes in gaming ASL students in the interpreting programs. Quite a few of them are hot, and they are usually socially awkward. The deaf community tends to attract those that are socially awkard due to the deaf being open minded. If you want to know about deaf culture just look at gay/lesbian culture - Lots of gay and lesbian in the deaf community because the attitudes and culture tend to mesh. Very very similar in attitude and mindset; if your blunt and dont get offended at others who are blunt, youll get along fine in the deaf community.

Nemencine is right, they should have a world Sign Language. Its crap that every country has its own language. However most of sign lanugage is visual expression, I can make shit up on the fly and ppl understand it because it just makes sense. I remember watching that movie Babel where there was a deaf chick in japan. At first i couldnt tell it was real sign, i thought she was a bad actress who could only get 1/3rd the sign right, but yup, Japan has its own version of sign lanugage. Even in America we have 2 versions: American Sign Language and Sign. ASL is very grammatically correct "I go to store" whereas Sign is just "go store" most interpreters have to unlearn the B.S. they learn in school so deaf ppl dont get annoyed at them.

Tons of experience, but direct questions work better. If you get really good at sign and dont move your lips girls automatically assume your deaf. (again, depends on skill level). Sign is really easy to pick up, my advice, find out about Deaf events in your town. In my town there are 2 decent events every month, "Deaf Chat" and "Deaf night out." Then there are bigger once a year events. Just get involved in the community by finding the regular events, whatever "deaf chat" they have every month or week in your town. A good place to start is finding out the major sign lanugage programs in your town, going to that college/department and asking where the upcoming events are. Just act like you belong on campus and youre trying to get involved/learn sign language and youll be fine.

When you show up to events, start learning. Admit you dont know shit but your learning sign language and people are always eager to help (assuming its genuine). Learn the alphabet and you can spell out words you dont know the sign for, and eventually, little by little, youll learn. My sign language is all self taught.

Key points to remember:

1) Learn how to wave "hi" lol and learn how to say "my name is ____, whats your name?" and "im learning sign" the rest will fall in place.
2) grow some balls and say the above to every hot chick at every event. simple enough.
3) get serious about learning sign, learning to be descriptive with body language will be a huge benefit
4) bang the hot ones

I messed with a deaf girl for a quick sec. We just communicated writing on her i-phone and other gestures. Deaf people are extremely dexterous so they can type very fast. i learned a bit of ASL and it is deaf helpful and fun! This chick, despite her looks, was an alcoholic and a bit of an attention whore. Good luck in our pursuit

There's a bar in DC that's popular with the deaf crowd, because it's near Gallaudet University (deaf university). Apparently even the bartenders have learned signing as it helps their tips. Never visited there myself though.

Will advances in cochlear implants mean that sign language starts going out of style? I know the implants are very controversial in the deaf community, but I can see them catching on nonetheless.
