For those of you who have read "My Wicked Wicked Ways", the (mostly sort of accurate) autobiography of Errol Flynn... I'm just wondering if you know any similar books.

Men who took off with little plans and bullshitted their way around the world.
I like hearing the stories from the perspective of the person who lived it.

Or any good autobiographies really.

I only read fiction, especially like biographies. I also love the whole idea of adventure as well. In another post a while back I had mentioned two of my favorite books Snowblind, a brief career in the cocaine trade and loaded misadventure on teh marijuana trail.

I also love true crime so those appeal to mee for that reason but both books are true advenntures. Taking off in a plane which they are unsure will even make it tocolumbia, landing in a field not suited for large planes. On one trip the plane crashed taking off, obviously tehy couldn't leave the country legally as they didn't have passports stamped going in so had to hike through the jungles for days avoiding the military and bandits to get a fake passport stamp and leave the country. Those are some really great travel and adventure stories you might like.

I can't remember the names but I also am really interested in sailing, read a few good books about people who get shipwrecked at sea and survive like 150 days in a raft catching fish and avoiding sharks. I think one book was called like 88 days or 150 days or something about a guy and his wife who this happenned to while sailing around the world

Read the Tropic of Cancer over the winter. It was recommended by a couple of guys on this forum so you may enjoy it.

The main guy basically boozes and whores his way across Europe in the early 1900's. It's realllly scatter-brained and gets really far out there in some of the passages where he describes his views on life and all this shit, but that actual narrative parts are cool and funny.

Apparently the book was originally banned in the US when it was published in the 60's. Wikipedia says it's regarded globally as a masterpiece.

It's fiction, but I highly recommend "The Long Ships." It's the story of a Viking chieftain. His ups and downs tell you the history of Europe in the late 10th Century. It's a time when men were expected to be patriarchs. Sure, it's a romanticized take, but after reading this book, my only thought was 'What the fuck happened?'

The Adventurist by Robert Young Pelton, a war journalist of insane repute would be one good one.

Travels by Michael Crichton is another one, details how he went from star med student to author while traveling around on one whacky adventure to another.

One that I don't recommend is "Titanic Thompson: The Man Who Bet on Everything."

I originally bought it because it was recommended on the Book Recommendation thread. I found the writing to be too simple, geared towards a child. Also, the stories get repetitive and boring.

Might not be quite what you are looking for, but My Secret Life by "Walter" is the most mind-blowing autobiography I've ever read. It's the sex diary of a Victorian gentleman who devoted his life to chasing "cunt" (his favourite word, and indeed, his favourite thing). This man did it all.
