I still think its a good idea. If you can control your hunger with drugs or surgery, why not just do that? That's a much bigger lever for your willpower than diets. It's already proven that the vast majority of dieters fail. You don't 'get anything' for having maintained a good weight by brute force and willpower over a medical intervention.

Same thing goes for steroids - if there were no side-effects, I'd take them too. It just gives your exercise and diet a bigger lever towards your goals.

I like the first part for sure, but the text in bold shows a narrow perspective*. It does matter how she did it, but more importantly, it just shows the truth. *In a lot of cities, people live in the suburbs. Suggesting a person sell their car and walk 25 miles to work and back is different than other geographic areas that would be conducive to this mindset of a manageable and realistic distance.

No one is marrying anyone here. At the same time, I'll give this girl all kinds of props as she took it upon herself to improve her appearance and she actually did.

And I think we all agree she looks about 1000% better.

Calm the hate and give girls like this all kinds of props. It's the only way the other fatties will listen.

btw-Back int he day we all gave fat chicks a ration of shit. When they lost weight we didn't keep hating on them.

That is why I said she will be fat again, because she cheated with the surgery. If she would have achieved this with willpower than that is a totally different outcome.

My mother had a gastric bypss 2 years ago. She has 5 sisters. She was the second one to do it. The first one had it done about 10 years ago. The third one had it done about a month ago. They'd like the fourth one to have it done as she's a prime candidate for a massive heart attack. The fourth won't do it. She keeps spouting off that bullshit that "it's cheating" even when she spent last Christmas in the hospital for what they thought was an impending heart attack. And everyone knows someone who had it done and gained it all back. I'm sure it's happened, but not as often as people want to believe. Let me tell you, I've had courtside seats to watching someone go through it, and it's not a walk in the park. Eat something a little too greasy or a little too sugary and guess what? Your reward is spending the next several hours vomiting, or having the shits. It may be a shortcut, but when you're over 60, you're diabetic, you've already had a heart bypass, etc, you've already run out of time.

So guys, spare your proselytizing about will power. It's not some simple thing where you get the surgery, go home 2 days later, and just kick back while the pounds melt away. It's a total change of lifestyle that you commit yourself to 100% without ever getting to dip a toe in to test the water. And once it's done, it's done. Yeah, a handful of people manage to push and push until they stretch their new stomach back into something like the old one, and I don't know how they do it, but they do, and they gain weight back.

It's not as easy as you think. And some people don't have the luxury of time.

I'm hoping the last fat sister will do it, and then they can hit the talk show circuit, and after that a reality show. Get them out of our hair for a while.

My mom is huge. She eats at least 2X what the rest of us do, at dinner. She eats a full meal before bed (that's the death sentence right there).

When she loads up her plate, I swear, she looks all defensively at the rest of us around the table. "Just say something, I dare you!" Like we are all judging her. In reality we're all talking and having fun, nobody really gives a shit any more about her weight. She's a goner and we all know it. But still she imagines that she must defend her right to overeat.

That's the core of obesity in my experience. People who defend their dinner plate as if, the world is trying to steal it. It's like a paranoid little junkie, obsessing over their stash of smack.

Gastric bypass doesn't cure any cardiac or other issues you might have developed from years of eating processed junk food and living a sedentary lifestyle. It's more of a cosmetic thing like guys how shoot synthol and get pec implants to create an illusion of being muscular.

Luther Vandross, the R&B singer, had it done and it didn't help with his hypertension or diabetes. He died of a heart attack in 2005.

Gastric bypass is just putting a fresh coat of paint on a rat-infested, building in the projects that has crack addicts strung out in the hallways, and a shitty septic system.

The surgery is just a symptom of a culture that emphasize immediate gratification and shuns hard work and discipline.

1. You do change your eating habits. Drastically. Most people who go through it become intolerant of foods high in fats and sugars. My mother and aunts can't eat the same shitty stuff they used to eat or they pay dearly.

2. Prior to getting the surgery, my mother had pulmonary hypertension(this is the absolute worst form of hypertension to have) and diabetes. Her diabetes has basically vanished, and the pulmonary hypertension has given way to regular high blood pressure which is managed with one pill a day versus several (which didn't really do much good.)

3. Luther Vandross didn't have a gastric bypass.

Is a gastric bypass for weight loss cheating the system any more than picking up a copy of Day Bang to get laid?
