Freedom of Thought Under Attack at University of Arizona
Freedom of Thought Under Attack at University of Arizona

"Of course, the activists aren’t actually talking about safety—they’re talking about emotional comfort. And they have a lot of frightening ideas about what it would take to ensure this kind of safety.
For starters, the Marginalized Students want to enact campus-wide cultural sensitivity training. This would be a requirement for everyone who either lives or works on campus, though the demands specifically single out fraternity members and the staff of the campus newspaper, the Arizona Daily Wildcat."

Just when you thought we had reached the bottom, American college students and professors find a way to dig to deeper dregs. Sick

Quote:The Marginalized Students want U of A to force all employees of the college, and some students—including everyone who works for the student newspaper—to undergo cultural sensitivity training. They want trigger warnings, and they want faculty members who fail to use them to be punished. They want optional separate living communities for students of color, gay students, and women (the marginalized don't like to share safe spaces, it seems). And they want diversity—a whole lot more diversity. Half a million dollars worth of diversity, in fact.

Let's celebrate diversity by segregating everyone!

You know what? I have a grievance. When I was a college student, I studied Mechanical Engineering and, hence, was very segregated from other students and denied many of the luxuries of student life. At my public university, all of us Engineering and Natural Science majors were confined to the ugly 1977 looking buildings on the dead corner of campus, far removed from any attractive people of the opposite sex. The art, humanities, and business majors hoarded all the cool, vintage buildings near the basketball stadium and the student union. As a white male engineering student, I was a frequent emotional victim of micro aggressions, "Dang, you're an engineer and you want to learn Spanish, why are you in this class?!!", "Woah, I didn't think a guy like you would be into this kind of music", and "I thought you engineers were all geeks and didn't like to go out and have fun" and so on. When I wasn't busting my ass studying for a Thermodynamics midterm, these factors severely marginalized my social and cultural prospects. So, on behalf of all Engineering students, I demand that the University pay it back to each of us with a social reparations reimbursement check for at least 30% of our sum tuition for our marginalized educational experiences. -- The Engineering Student Body
