RE: The Panama Papers Thread
This thing has potential to be yuuuge.
As for why there are no Americans on the list, I'd say there's a good chance that they are holding back a lot of info for now.
It's 2.6 terabyte, the media can and will milk this story for weeks.
They won't publicize their most valuable data in the beginning.
Even so, there's already some entertaining stuff available.
My favorites include holier-than-thou Kofi Annan, the whole bunch from transparency-zealous Iceland, the Kirchner gang from Argentina, David Cameron's father, and of course French master of hypocrisy Jérôme Cahuzac.

A comment I read elsewhere:
Quote:The Panama Paper Leak is a dirty obvious PR stunt of the West to expose BRICS leaders in order to topple them with bad publicity
Agree? Disagree?
I would definitely agree. The emphasis on China, Russia, Putin, Putin's friends, Syria, Assad, etc. seems greatly suspicious and not coincidental at all knowing recent global events.
I was reading the ZeroHedge article on this ( http://www.zerohedge.com/news/2016-04-03...est-people) and they linked to another article from Bloomberg ( http://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2...ted-states) which was really interesting. Main point was that the US is becoming a new tax haven for rich foreigners mainly because our government is actively "resisting new global disclosure standards".
Quote:Rothschild, the centuries-old European financial institution, has opened a trust company in Reno, Nev., a few blocks from the Harrah’s and Eldorado casinos. It is now moving the fortunes of wealthy foreign clients out of offshore havens such as Bermuda, subject to the new international disclosure requirements, and into Rothschild-run trusts in Nevada, which are exempt.
The U.S. “is effectively the biggest tax haven in the world” —Andrew Penney, Rothschild & Co.
Hmm..anyone who's read about the Rothschilds knows why this is a point of interest.
Perhaps the Panama Papers incident was intended to hurt the existing tax evasion industries in places like Panama and the Bahamas and draw more of that money towards American based banks.

RE: The Panama Papers Thread
The fact that all of these news organizations are coordinating the release of these documents tells me that this is a sophisticated hit job funded by someone very powerful (i.e. Soros and assorted globalists). If this were really "an investigation", the first news organization to get their hands on materials like this would have instantly ran it and reaped millions in increased sales.

I tend to agree with you here. Although very little of the data has been scoured through, the fact that they headlined pretty much all of the western states enemies as criminals, makes me wonder what else they are trying to hide here or distract us with.
Look at the main picture on the website, it's Putin.

Perhaps, if suspicions over Soros being behind this are true, he could use this as leverage over influential US persons of interest in the public sphere.
Give us some influence or we release the details which I'm sure the IRS would love to get a look at.
The IRS can destroy people and Soros doesn't need any more money does he? All he wants is global influence over the general population and who does that better than influential people from all walks of life?
Outside the US he couldn't influence them as much, especially Putin except to make him look bad in the eyes of normal Russians.

RE: The Panama Papers Thread
This is what happens when the state tries to take your wealth away with big taxes. You're forced to hide it trough obscure, but somehow legal, systems. "Smallionaires" stash money under the bed, billionaires send it around in circles throughout the world.
EDIT: To be honest, I do not understand the outrage regarding this. Everyone knew about shady "offshore" accounts and about Panama's ethics.

RE: The Panama Papers Thread
Listened to an interview on radio Moscow Ekho an hour ago.
They interviewed a member of the Russian government who said that this whole story of linking Putin to hidden billions is BS.
He asked why Putin would need to steal billions since he could never spend it even in retirement since any extravagant spending would immediately be picked up by journalists and ruin his legacy and reputation. Something else he said to the interviewer that was amusing was asking why he would need billions. He said if Putin wants to go spend time on a mega yacht ( he is accused of being behind the purchase of a $6 million boat ) he just has to call up Abramovich and he'll send one of his fleet to use as he wishes. If he wants to stay in a villa on the Cote d'Azur he can call any of the many oligarchs who own down there and stay as long as he wants. Basically he's Putin motherfuckers, he don't need no cash.
Anecdotally I know a Russian guy who was big in the property development world in St. Petersburg when Putin was governor of the region. He said Putin and his small group around him were the only people who would not accept bribes at that time to speed things up or get projects passed. The guy always played strictly by the law.

RE: The Panama Papers Thread
https://www.craigmurray.org.uk/archives/...nama-leak/
Quote:Whoever leaked the Mossack Fonseca papers appears motivated by a genuine desire to expose the system that enables the ultra wealthy to hide their massive stashes, often corruptly obtained and all involved in tax avoidance. These Panamanian lawyers hide the wealth of a significant proportion of the 1%, and the massive leak of their documents ought to be a wonderful thing.
Unfortunately the leaker has made the dreadful mistake of turning to the western corporate media to publicise the results. In consequence the first major story, published today by the Guardian, is all about Vladimir Putin and a cellist on the fiddle. As it happens I believe the story and have no doubt Putin is bent.
But why focus on Russia? Russian wealth is only a tiny minority of the money hidden away with the aid of Mossack Fonseca. In fact, it soon becomes obvious that the selective reporting is going to stink.
The Suddeutsche Zeitung, which received the leak, gives a detailed explanation of the methodology the corporate media used to search the files. The main search they have done is for names associated with breaking UN sanctions regimes. The Guardian reports this too and helpfully lists those countries as Zimbabwe, North Korea, Russia and Syria. The filtering of this Mossack Fonseca information by the corporate media follows a direct western governmental agenda. There is no mention at all of use of Mossack Fonseca by massive western corporations or western billionaires – the main customers. And the Guardian is quick to reassure that “much of the leaked material will remain private.”
What do you expect? The leak is being managed by the grandly but laughably named “International Consortium of Investigative Journalists”, which is funded and organised entirely by the USA’s Center for Public Integrity. Their funders include
Ford Foundation
Carnegie Endowment
Rockefeller Family Fund
W K Kellogg Foundation
Open Society Foundation (Soros)
among many others. Do not expect a genuine expose of western capitalism. The dirty secrets of western corporations will remain unpublished.
Expect hits at Russia, Iran and Syria and some tiny “balancing” western country like Iceland. A superannuated UK peer or two will be sacrificed – someone already with dementia.
The corporate media – the Guardian and BBC in the UK – have exclusive access to the database which you and I cannot see. They are protecting themselves from even seeing western corporations’ sensitive information by only looking at those documents which are brought up by specific searches such as UN sanctions busters. Never forget the Guardian smashed its copies of the Snowden files on the instruction of MI6.
What if they did Mossack Fonseca database searches on the owners of all the corporate media and their companies, and all the editors and senior corporate media journalists? What if they did Mossack Fonseca searches on all the most senior people at the BBC? What if they did Mossack Fonseca searches on every donor to the Center for Public Integrity and their companies?
What if they did Mossack Fonseca searches on every listed company in the western stock exchanges, and on every western millionaire they could trace?
That would be much more interesting. I know Russia and China are corrupt, you don’t have to tell me that. What if you look at things that we might, here in the west, be able to rise up and do something about?
And what if you corporate lapdogs let the people see the actual data?
UPDATE
Hundreds of thousands of people have read this post in the 11 hours since it was published – despite it being overnight here in the UK. There are 235,918 “impressions” on twitter (as twitter calls them) and over 3,700 people have “shared” so far on Facebook, bringing scores of new readers each.

We will stand tall in the sunshine
With the truth upon our side
And if we have to go alone
We'll go alone with pride
For us, these conflicts can be resolved by appeal to the deeply ingrained higher principle embodied in the law, that individuals have the right (within defined limits) to choose how to live. But this Western notion of individualism and tolerance is by no means a conception in all cultures. - Theodore Dalrymple
