Some good finds, MrRoundtree, and you point (heh) to an interesting phenomenon, the song that came and went in the US but stayed popular in Europe.

Over a decade after disco was dead, I traveled in Europe and couldn't get away from Sister Sledge.

I heard this song everywhere:





The two Canadian hippies I was traveling with got so tired of it, they sang their own parody version called "Lost in Muesli."

Another Sister Sledge disco classic that came and went and now you only hear it at family reunions:

There's good disco, for example Chic, which had a more sophisticated sound thanks to Nile Rodgers' jazz-leanings like in "Soup For One" or "Everybody Dance" (and production, check out his credits)




and bad disco, like "Disco Duck"... ( I won't post that here)

quick sidenote: the whole Hot Space album was basically an album designed to sound like a gay club, albeit not by the band, as explained here from 4:30 onward

Oh yeah.

Donna Summer never got the credit she really deserved. She got pidgeon-holed as the "Queen of Disco" but her vocal talents and abilities far greater than just that. Here's a really obscure disco track from 1981. Produced by Georgio Moroder it came at the tail end of disco and its one the earliest "euro industrial dance" genre that eventually became trance and then what became known as EDM

I can't believe Santa Esmeralda hasn't been posted yet... They're mostly famous for their covers of The Animals songs...






Most famously used in the final fight scene in Kill Bill 1. I love how they combined disco with flamenco music.





Another Animals cover. The guitar solo around starting from 5:30 blows my mind every time.
