Thats just the Quran... The Sunnah (Prophet Mohammeds rules for life book), is pretty much all jihad and treating women worse than dogs.

Also, unlike the bible which nobody would argue is open to you own interpretation, the Quran specifically dictates that everything in it is to be taken literally.

As for the Torah, I cant say anything as I haven't read it. But I cant imagine there was much competition when it was written!

This is all irrelevant. It doesn't matter what the fuck different people believe, it's their actions that are important.

Coming at it from the thought-crime viewpoint makes us no better than the Firefox people.

Exactly, at the moment the US Government is hated by more people than any person or populace has ever been hated in history. You have to wonder why that it is? I think the war and the title of this thread are a big hint

I'm kind of astounded that anyone is still seriously making the argument in 2014 that we need to have an active military presence across the globe in order to "preserve our freedom."

If you're opposed to the U.S. having bases and/or a worldwide military presence, is it opposition to the idea of any nation having a worldwide military presence, or just the U.S.?

If it's the former, do you seriously think the vacuum left by a U.S. withdrawal would not be filled, or would have been filled in the absence of the U.S. by another power?

If it's the latter, how far back in time would you go to disengage the U.S. military in such a fashion and what if any threshold is there for the U.S. military to be involved in world affairs?

I don't disagree with downsizing our military footprint on the world, but if that's the case, I don't want us obligated to anyone else for any reason, because whatever destabilizing element our armed forces cause in the world today will be replaced tenfold in short order.

Jihad was only ordained for the last 7 out of the 20 years of Prophethood so his Sunnah being “pretty much all jihad” is a flat out lie. Treating women worse than dogs is also a flat out lie. Muslims just don’t worship them like Westerners.

I don’t understand this statement. So the Bible isn’t open to any interpretation meaning it should be taken literally whereas the Qur’an is the exact opposite because it is to be taken literally?

And as far as equating jihad with terrorism, that is just stupid. Terrorism is the direct targeting of civilians which is expressly forbidden under Islamic Law. However, you are welcome to show that I am mistaken by citing any of the books of jurisprudence on this subject.

Do you have a problem with warfare as a whole or just when Muslims do it?

Getting back on track to the original topic, The strong do what they can and the weak suffer what they must.

The USA can have military bases wherever the fuck they want and bomb whoever doesn't fall in line because they can. This is simply human nature, which is animalistic to the core. Contrary to what your college Ethics professor said, human beings will always pursue the quickest way to achieve the maximum benefit so long as they aren't doing too much harm.

There are several US bases that have closed, for example in Germany (although there are still many that are open there) or in the Philippines.
