I try not to think about it too much. It's less forgiveness and more selective memory.

I have a mean streak and picking at old wounds brings out my bad side. I buried the hatchet with my mother about 5 years ago and I told myself I'd let it go. I only wrote that story because I think it can help OP see how people can fuck you over if you let them. Til this day, I do believe I did the right thing by helping my mom stay afloat BUT I literally subsidized her life for a few years and crippled my own. Time will tell if it was truly a good decision, but I would struggle to live with myself if it turned out to be a poor decision on my part. Luckily, she's gotten her shit together since then and even appears to be on the verge of major success.

Let's just hope I didn't harm my future for nothing.

It's not for nothing so long as you learned something from it. That was money that was meant for your college bills and you spent it on your mom instead. Could your mom have found another option?(bankruptcy or whatever) Sure.

You learned, hopefully, to not to try to save everyone if you don't truly have the means to.

I learned and I do think it was worth it. She was taking care of my two younger siblings (divorced from wealthy dad) so it was more for them than her. She didn't ever try and use them against me, though, so I let it go.

Anyway, thanks for giving me that way to think about it.

RE: Should I share my inheritance?
Fake or not, great question set-up.

It boils down to:

"My paternal grandfather (father of my father) left me an inheritance. The mother of my mother (maternal grandmother), and my mother, might want a cut. I have some bastard half-siblings, but are unrelated to my paternal grandfather who left me the inheritance."

Some good responses from the first page of this thread, and I echo their sentiments.

Don't cuck your paternal grandfather. The phrasing is jovial, but the sentiment I want to convey is real.

Your paternal grandfather left the inheritance to you for a reason, and not to your maternal grandmother, your shifty-sounding mother, nor the unholy spawn (from his perspective) that are the bastard children of your mother.

Use the inheritance as an investment, and build your life. If successful, you will have more than enough money to circle back and make it rain on your maternal bloodline and their extracurricular spawn.

RE: Should I share my inheritance?
I didn´t go through whole thread.
If you share this with others, they will waste those money and in the end, nobodys life will get much better. The most of the people complain about money, but if they get some, they will spend it in x time and their lives will be still the same.
You should invest this money in yourself, that´s the only investment, that matters. Buy youself a house, so you will be secured in case whatever comes. Then invest. You can make a lot of money, if you have basic capital. When you earn another money, then you can support your close people around. But don´t waste inheritance on them.

Or OP is just notoriously stingy...

The advice on the thread is solid though.

Don't forget he also has a couple of rolex watches and gold jewellery but is still paying off old debts.

If the story is true i have a feeling the money won't last long either way.

It sounds like the women in your family are bitches and your grandfather trusted you with the inheritance for a reason, tell them to take a hike.

RE: Should I share my inheritance?
Unsure if OP is trolling or bullshitting but the scenario does bring up interesting points and a thought experiment:

Hard to argue against inheritances bringing out the worst in people, especially once grandchildren get involved. Lots of cultures have sayings that amount to "shirtsleeves to shirtsleeves in three generations" so it seems like this trend is worldwide. I've seen it with my ex wife's family in Hong Kong, and there's a lot of ugliness and vindictiveness as grandpa just recently passed and had four kids and 15 grandchildren.

I'm wondering how certain dynasties - the Rothschilds most immediately come to mind - are able to keep and build up so much wealth and power generation after generation whereas most people end up squandering the loot their ancestors leave to them. I read somewhere that they tended to intermarry a lot to maintain the "us vs the world" mentality, but so much of the info out there on the Rothschilds is clouded with conspiracy theories and Illuminati bullshit that it's hard for me to suss out the truth.

This motherfucker going out... his legs... they was like... linguini!

I've also wondered this. Seems everyone is more concerned with painting them as evil villain overlords than learning from them. I'd like to know, for instance, how they choose their women.

I'm guessing they're selecting based on intelligence a lot more than other people; it would be interesting how that works. I think they get off on female intelligence displaying behaviours (like for instance, how Sarah Silverman behaves -- her flirting with Bill Maher was a good example) and tend to choose their wives based on that rather than focusing on looks.

It would also be interesting to know how they raise their kids such that they stay loyal to the family.

For the early generations, the choice was simple: they had incestuous marriages.

https://therake.com/stories/code/pedigre...ic-incest/

Quote:Mayer Amschel Rothschild, founder of the banking family, also liked to keep things cosy, arranging his affairs so that cousin marriages among his descendants were inevitable. His will barred female descendants from any direct inheritance, so that female Rothschilds had a paucity of possible marriage partners of the same religion and suitable economic and social stature – except other Rothschilds. Thus, four of Mayer’s granddaughters married his grandsons, and one married her uncle.

In fact, between 1824 and 1877, of 36 male Rothschild descendants, 30 married their cousins, with first preferences going to those whose fathers were partners in different branches of the bank, giving a whole new dimension to the term ‘family business’. Such homogeneity is as tight-knit as an XXXS sweater, and it’s given rise to some disturbingly eugenic notions. Oxford historian Niall Ferguson, in his book, The House of Rothschild (Penguin), speculated that there might have been ‘a Rothschild ‘gene for financial acumen’, which intermarriage somehow helped to perpetuate. Perhaps it was that which made the Rothschilds truly exceptional.’ Though he later opted to hedge his bets, dismissing any putative dosh-gene as ‘unlikely’.

Ferguson's history on the Rothschilds and other historical economic players (The Ascent of Money) was where I first came across this practice.

Notice in particular that females had no rights of direct inheritance. Avaricious people respond to avaricious incentives. The Rothschild women were no artistic idiots like, say, Virginia Woolf; they liked the creature comforts. This measure meant the Rothschild fortune never got into the hands of bastard children, because the mother never got it to begin with. By the late 19th century, though, they'd started to marry outside the family ... but only into aristocracies or other high-finance families. My guess would be that family member's wills are heavily policed for these reasons, and that they avoid jurisdictions which have inheritance legislation that benefits illegitimate kids left on the outer.

In short, they observed a caste system: never allow someone who married outside the upper class to inherit any money.

Remissas, discite, vivet.
God save us from people who mean well. -storm
